Job overview
Are you a registered experienced nurse sonographer with gynaecology health experience? Do you want to achieve your potential by playing a key role, working in a unit that is dedicated to providing an emergency gynaecology and scanning services for women? You will be working closely with other members of the multi-disciplinary team within Gynaecology and Women’s health services.
The unit provides a high quality service for women experiencing emergency gynaecology complications via the Gynaecology Assessment Unit (GAU) and early pregnancy problems via the Early Pregnancy Advisory Unit ( EPAU). We are currently looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Nurse to join our team of Nurse specialists.
As a first level registered nurse, working as part of a supportive and committed multi-professional team, you will have plenty of opportunity to develop and expand your role. We will support you to work towards patient management skills enabling you to deliver truly holistic care for our clients. This is an excellent opportunity for you to reach your clinical potential and develop the skills to practise autonomously within clinical protocols and guidelines.

Main duties of the job
The post holder acts as a specialist practitioner in the area of early pregnancy and emergency Gynaecology care and will act as a resource for this across the Gynaecology department. The role will have responsibility for deputising for the lead CNS in co-ordinating and developing the Emergency Gynaecology Unit. The post is one of continuing professional development.
Working closely with the lead consultant of Emergency Gynaecology service and Gynaecology matron , the post holder will ensure the delivery of evidence – based care throughout the unit. With innovation approach to nursing, the post holder will participate in developing and implementing service development projects. The role shares the responsibility to facilitate an effective communication link across directorates and within the women’s directorate. The post is seen as key to establish links with other provider units to aid dissemination of information and best practice.
To perform ultrasound examinations Cross-site to include early pregnancy and Gynaecological case mix as appropriate and competent.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- NMC Registered
- Ultrasound Certificate/Qualification
- Can demonstrate a commitment and willingness to undertake further study at post graduate level.
- Mentorship course
- Counselling course or equivalent practice
Desirable criteria
- Relevant Womens Health Course or be working towards
Experience
Essential criteria
- Post registration experience in early pregnancy care /acute Gynaecology.
- Experience of bereavement care
- Experience as a preceptor/mentor to qualified staff
- Can demonstrate experience of supervision of learner and trained staff
Desirable criteria
- Experience of change management
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Can show an awareness of changing management of early pregnancy care
- Can demonstrate knowledge of current trends and regulations in Women’s Health
- Has a working knowledge of standard setting and quality management
- Knowledge and experience of clinical supervision/action learning sets and reflective practice.
