Substantive Consultant in HIV and Integrated Sexual Health (6PA)

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated consultant to join a dynamic

Multidisciplinary HIV, Sexual Health and Reproductive team based at Greenway Centre, Newham University Hospital and Royal London Hospital.  The post will be based in Newham University Hospital with some shifts for sexual health being in one of our Centres of Excellence (Sir Ludwig Guttmann Centre, Stratford or Ambrose King Centre, Whitechapel).

Main duties of the job

Clinical responsibilities include 2 HIV clinics per week and 2 general sexual health clinics including one evening per week with scope for a specialist clinic suited to the applicants skills.

 

The post holder will be expected to participate in undergraduate and postgraduate training, education and research. The department is part of the North East London Clinical Services Network (NELNET) thus providing excellent opportunities to engage in clinical leadership, teaching and research.

 

You should have your CCT GUM or be eligible for inclusion within 6 months of the interview date.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

· To contribute to the provision of comprehensive, sensitive and efficient HIV care.

 

· To contribute to specialist HIV clinical services including looking after in-patients at Newham University Hospital

 

·    To contribute to specialist GUM services

 

· To contribute to educational, service development and research activities in the department

Person specification

Qualification

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of on-going professional training and development in HIV medicine
  • MBChB or equivalent
  • MRCP
  • Entry on the specialist register with CCT
Desirable criteria
  • Research GCP certificate
  • Dip GUM
  • Other higher degree (e.g. MSc, MD, PhD)
  • DipHIV
  • Management qualification
  • Teaching qualification

Registration

Essential criteria
  • Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment

Language skills

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English that are adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of developing and delivering training to multi-disciplinary professionals
  • Experience of working in a HIV and sexual and reproductive health setting
  • Ability to analyse, interpret, manipulate and present complex data
  • Experience of clinical audit
  • Evidence of working with staff from different professional disciplines
  • Experience of leading change management and service improvement in clinical services
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrable track record of clinical or operational leadership in a complex health environment
  • Experience of leading and managing multidisciplinary teams
