Specialist Librarian, Band 6

This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified librarian, preferably with health experience, to join our team. This would be ideal for a librarian wishing to extend their range or looking to move into a different sector.

Main duties of the job

You will have the chance to work as part of our enthusiastic team of librarians working across Barts Health NHS trust in east London.

Your primary base will be at The Royal London Hospital, where you will directly support Barts Health staff on the library enquiry desk, however you will be part of a small team providing library services across the whole of Barts Health NHS Trust and may be expected to work across our other sites as required.

As part of the team, you would be offering evidence searches, training, supporting inductions, being the contact point at your hospital site.

We are looking for a librarian with an ability to work alone and the confidence to go out to talk (virtually and face to face) with trust staff at all levels of the organisation.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Graduate or postgraduate qualification in librarianship or information science
  • Evidence of continuing professional development (e.g. CILIP revalidation)
Desirable criteria
  • Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience of professional library work.
  • Proven experience of presenting to large groups and/or senior stakeholders
  • Proven experience of teaching individuals and groups, producing training aids and evaluating training
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in a healthcare library/ information unit
  • Successful record of identifying and promoting services to new and current user groups

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of relevant library legislation, e.g. Copyright Act and Data Protection
  • Knowledge of the principles of searching bibliographic databases and information retrieval.
Desirable criteria
  • Sound working knowledge of health information resources
  • Knowledge of the principals involved in evidence-based healthcare, clinical governance and research
  • In-depth understanding of the role of electronic resources in the delivery of library and information services and in the delivery of high-quality patient care
  • Knowledge of current NHS trends and initiatives

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise the workload and to make sound informed decisions
  • Well-developed information retrieval skills, including critical appraisal skills
  • Excellent IT and keyboard skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent presentation skills
Desirable criteria
  • Able to carry out complex information reviews; selecting and packaging the results
