Are you a passionate and skilled Occupational Therapist eager to advance your career in a research-driven environment? Join Whipps Cross Hospital, a Centre of Excellence in Frailty and the centre for NOF fractures for Barts Health, where compassionate care and innovation come together.
We are seeking a confident Band 7 Occupational Therapist with strong leadership skills and a broad T&O background to lead our dedicated therapy team. Our orthopaedic wards follow the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocol for NOF fractures, improving outcomes through evidence-based practice.


In this role, you will lead a skilled team delivering specialist assessments and interventions across complex T&O and rehabilitation caseloads. You will work within a multidisciplinary team and champion best practice in orthopaedic care alongside your peer Advanced Clinical Academic Fellow B7 T&O Physiotherapist and Band 8a Advanced Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist in T&O.

Main duties of the job

To play a major and specialist role in the advanced assessment, treatment, clinical management and discharge planning of patients admitted to the orthopaedic wards determining clinical diagnosis, functional deficits, treatment programs and discharge planning.

Essential criteria
  • Extensive post registration experience working in an acute hospital setting in the NHS or similar health service in orthopaedics
  • Highly developed acute skills with post registration experience in relevant specialties including orthopaedics and frailty
  • Experience and confidence working within a high pressured and fast paced environment
  • Experience supervising and appraising staff and students
  • Experience of audit / research Documented evidence of CPD, in accordance with HCPC recommendations
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in working within a transdisciplinary environment

Knowledge & Skills

Essential criteria
  • Good knowledge of current best practice in OT with specialist clinical skills in Orthopaedics
  • In depth knowledge of national policies and procedures relevant to client group (#NOF and poly trauma)In depth knowledge of national policies and procedures relevant to client group (#NOF and poly trauma)
  • Ability to take a proactive approach to assessment and discharge planning
  • Ability to pass on knowledge & deliver training both internally within profession & externally to other staff groups

  • Ability to deal with challenging situations and with emotional / aggressive patients / carers
  • Be able to demonstrate flexibility and reliability

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Registered with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC)

  • Ability to keep accurate and legible patient notes
  • Ability to gain patients trust and confidence and feeling of safety about their care
  • Sufficient to perform the duties of the post with any aids and adaptations
