The Trust incorporates St Bartholomew’s Hospital, The Royal London and Mile End Hospitals, Newham University Hospital and Whipps Cross University Hospital.

NEWHAM UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL, as part of Barts Health NHS Trust, is a 350-bed hospital that serves one of Britain’s most diverse, fastest growing, and youngest populations. The Radiology department in Newham University Hospital is a busy, modern and well-equipped department with 6 fully digital general X-ray rooms (DR) and 1 modern Fluoroscopy screening room, six ultrasound rooms, a state-of-the-art 128 slice dual source CT scanner, a new state-of-the-art wide-bore 1.5 Tesla MRI scanner, and a digital mammography unit equipped with biopsy module. A second CT scanner is under installation at the moment. We are a completely paperless department with a cross-trust HIS, PACS, RIS and VR system for reporting.

THE POST: This post is for one-year fixed term contract for a Consultant Radiologist at Barts Health NHS Trust with a sub-speciality interest in neuroradiology. 

Main duties of the job

·         To support, develop and enhance the general and specialised imaging services at Barts Health NHS Trust.

·         To contribute to the high-quality consultant-led diagnostic radiology service at Newham University Hospital.

·         Participate in the on-call service.

·         To support other imaging developments within the Trust and within Northeast London (NEL) Imaging Board.

·         To provide evidence-based care for all patients.

·         To always adhere to appropriate clinical and quality standards.

·         To liaise effectively and on a timely basis with hospital colleagues, General Practitioners, community services, and relevant healthcare agencies.

·         To maintain and promote team and multi-disciplinary work.

·         To participate in the management of the Departments and to liaise closely with the Clinical Director and Clinical leads.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Basic Medical qualification from a recognized University or Medical School

Specialisation

Essential criteria
  • The Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists (FRCR) or equivalent degree in Diagnostic Radiology
Desirable criteria
  • MRCP/MRCS

GMC registration

Essential criteria
  • On the general GMC register
Desirable criteria
  • Possession of CCT in Radiology or within 6 months of application for CCT Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register for Radiology

Radiology Training

Essential criteria
  • At least three years training in a recognised radiology department
Desirable criteria
  • Five years training in a recognised radiology department

Neuroradiology Training

Essential criteria
  • At least one year fellowship training in Neuroradiology from a recognised medical institute
Desirable criteria
  • More than a year training in Neuroradiology
  • Up to date knowledge and experience in Neuroradiology
  • Good command of neck ultrasound skills

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive experience in diagnostic radiology with subspecialisation in Neuroradiology
Desirable criteria
  • Experience working in the UK National Health Services (NHS)
  • Knowledge of other medical disciplines.
  • Managing MDT activities
  • Participation in continuing professional development (CPD) scheme and, where relevant, evidence of participation

Teaching

Essential criteria
  • Ability to teach essential radiology to pre-graduate medical students, radiographers, and junior medical staff.
Desirable criteria
  • Certification in Education/Teaching
