Band 6 – Primary Schools Service – Full time (37.5 hours per week) fixed term contract for 11 months in the first instance.

Are you looking for a job in a friendly, supportive, and diverse team? We’d love for you to join us! We have a full-time band 6 post available in our mainstream primary schools team. We are looking for someone with a clinical interest in social communication differences and has experience of working with autistic children. You will be working in mainstream schools, some of which will have Autism Classes. You will also support children with language disorder and a range of other communication difficulties.

Main duties of the job

The post holder works as a member of the Speech and Language Therapy Children’s Service.  He / she works as a member of the team that provides support to children in mainstream primary and secondary schools, across language resource provisions and alternative provisions.  The post holder participates in the assessment and advice service as well as supporting a designated caseload of children and schools in line with the service priorities.

Essential criteria
  • Recognised degree in Speech and Language Therapy
  • Registered member of HCPC
  • Member of RCSLT
  • Theories, assessment and therapy techniques / approaches for children with complex communication disorders
  • Implications for delays / disorders within an educational setting
Desirable criteria
  • special educational issues for client groups

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working with a range of communication disorders in children, in community clinics and /or educational establishments.
  • Experience of working to provide the Special Educational Needs service with statutory assessment information
  • Experience of ensuring health and safety standards are followed
  • Experience of working collaboratively with a range of professionals to provide direct and indirect intervention for the client group.
Desirable criteria
  • Clinical experience of working with bilingual families in deprived socio-economic inner city areas
  • Experience of providing training to education and health staff and parents and carers
