These posts provide exposure to a wide variety of cardiovascular conditions and are suitable for those with a good grounding in general cardiology who wish to gain experience in advanced imaging/specialised cardiology. The Barts imaging/specialised clinical fellow post has a track record of successfully transitioning many fellows into cardiology consultant posts across the UK and internationally.

Main duties of the job
· To support all cardiac imaging modalities [cardiac MRI, cardiac CT, advanced echocardiography (exercise/dobutamine/CPEX stress, deformation and 3D echocardiography, TOE) and nuclear cardiology]. This will include supervising and performing studies (after appropriate training and competency assessment), reporting studies on patients, maintaining patient safety at all times and assisting in the smooth running of these departments.
· To provide, as part of the rota for cardiac imaging and specialised services, support for the outpatient, inpatient and MDT management of specialised cardiology service patients (cardio-oncology, heart muscle disease, advanced heart failure, preventive cardiology).
· There is approximately a 1:6-1:7 9AM-5PM ward week at UCLH providing a cardiology consult service under consultant supervision to the Medical Assessment Unit, ITU, oncology and other wards. Providing cardiology advice (with the support of the cardio-oncology team) at Europe’s largest haemato-oncology unit at UCLH is a key component of the consult service. Specialist nursing support is available.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The non-consult weeks typically involve 3-4 sessions of training in advanced imaging/cardio-oncology/advanced heart failure/inherited heart disease (as per the clinical fellow’s career requirements), 2-3 clinics (general cardiology/specialised cardiology) and sessions for admin/research/audit/teaching.
The rota is compliant with the European Working Time Directive.
There are numerous educational opportunities at BHC including a number of weekly Cardiology teaching and departmental meetings.
There are a number of MDT meetings run in specialised cardiology (e.g. heart failure, cardio-oncology, heart muscle disease, ACHD, infective endocarditis, valve, TAVI etc.) which offer considerable learning opportunities.
Fellows are supported to achieve formal competencies in their chosen areas (e.g. level 3 in cardiac MRI/CT, accreditation in heart failure from the ESC, certification in cardio-oncology from ICOS etc.). Educational supervision is provided.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- The applicant must have achieved a primary medical qualification as recognised by the General Medical Council (GMC)
- Current Full GMC registration with a license to practice
- MRCP UK (or Equivalent)
Desirable criteria
- Certification/accreditation in cardiac imaging (any modality)/inherited cardiac disease/cardio-oncology /heart failure
- Current ALS certification
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience in general cardiology at ST3+ level (e.g. independent in transthoracic echocardiography, comfortable in managing acutely unwell cardiology patients on the wards)
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience in advanced cardiac imaging
