The Royal London Hospital is one of the busiest trauma centres in Europe, delivering world-class care across a broad range of specialties.

We are seeking highly motivated and committed Trust Grade Doctors (ST3 Equivalent) in Trauma & Orthopaedics to join our team at the Newham Hospital, a major trauma centre with a national and international reputation for excellence.

This post offers an exciting opportunity to gain extensive experience in the management of complex trauma and elective orthopaedic conditions within a busy tertiary referral centre.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide high-quality care in Trauma & Orthopaedics across inpatient, outpatient, and emergency settings
  • Participate in daily trauma meetings, ward rounds, fracture clinics, and theatre lists
  • Assess and manage acute trauma patients, including polytrauma, under consultant supervision
  • Assist in operative procedures and develop surgical skills appropriate to ST3 level
  • Participate in the on-call rota for Trauma & Orthopaedics
  • Contribute to teaching of junior doctors and medical students
  • Engage in clinical audit, research, and quality improvement projects

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Full GMC registration with a License to Practice
  • MRCS
Desirable criteria
  • ATLS
  • BSS
  • CCrisp

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous Orthopaedic experience in both elective and trauma services in the NHS.
Desirable criteria
  • Previous registrar level experience in trauma and orthopaedics

Management

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of effective leadership e.g. quality improvement projects, service improvement
Desirable criteria
  • Management training course
  • Knowledge of NHS finances / budgets

Teaching & Training

Essential criteria
  • Enthusiasm, and ability to teach and train
  • Effective teaching and presentation skills
Desirable criteria
  • Formal teaching qualification r.g PgCert / Train the Trainers

Research

Essential criteria
  • Engagement in research Peer Reviewed Publication
Desirable criteria
  • Higher degree (MSc, MD, PhD)
