Job overview

Although this position is a 9 months fixed-term contract, the actual contract duration will be adjusted to account for the time taken to advertise the post, complete the hiring process, and finalise pre-employment checks. This means the contract will begin when the candidate starts the role and may be slightly shorter than 9 months.

We are looking for a self-motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our well established and highly respected team.

As a Therapy Support Worker, you will be responsible for providing clinical and administrative support to the team of qualified occupational therapists and physiotherapists. This will include carrying out activities of daily living, exercise programmes and issuing relevant equipment, ensuring the highest standard of patient care. You will be able to refer to the qualified therapists for guidance and supervision where necessary.

You will have the chance to work in the following acute ward areas: -

  • Older People’s Services/Care of the Elderly
  • Musculoskeletal Outpatients
  • Cognitive Geriatric Assessments

We are looking for a committed person with excellent communication skills who has previous experience in the health or social care setting

Main duties of the job

  • To assist the therapy team in providing a high standard of service to patients referred from a variety of settings, mainly patient's home. Including supporting the multi-professional team in the assessment and implementation of treatment programmes and care plans for patients.
  • The post holder will work with patients from areas including but not limited to Older people services, inpatient wards, ED/SDEC, front door frailty and patient's own home environment.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GCSE Maths and English or a good standard of written English, numeracy and IT skills
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant NVQ or equivalent in health related subject

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience as rehab/therapy support worker, therapy support worker, fitness instructor or equivalent
  • Experience in older adults and community setting/home visits
  • Experience in ordering equipment from different platforms
Desirable criteria
  • NHS experience
  • Experience in teaching or education

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Understanding of the impact of disability and ageing
  • Knowledge of the needs of different ethnic minority groups
  • Awareness of different cultures
  • Knowledge of the local population of Tower Hamlets
Desirable criteria
  • Awareness of health inequalities and how this impacts on delivering care in hospital and beyond
