Band 5 Speech and Language Therapist (1.0 WTE) Hammersmith & Fulham special schools team
Are you looking to make a real difference to the lives of children and young people?
We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 5 Speech and Language Therapist to join our Speech and Language Therapy Special Schools team to work in a secondary school with CYP ages 11 – 16 years in the borough of Hammersmith & Fulham. The post holder will join the SLT team based at Woodlane High School. The post includes the opportunity to work with a neurodiverse caseload with a variety of profiles including supporting young people who are working towards GCSE’s and also those accessing a functional/life skills nurture provision. The post provides the opportunity to implement a wide range of therapeutic approaches in collaboration with education partners to ensure that pupils’ language and communication support is integrated throughout their day. Through joint planning and delivery of interventions in the classroom and through support to families you will ensure that SLT input has a functional impact for the pupils you support.

Main duties of the job
- Working closely with children, families and other professionals, providing advice to others regarding the clinical management to support children and young people as relevant to the post.
- Supporting the delivery of a wide range of school aged intervention packages in relation to the whole system approach to supporting speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) within designated locality community & school settings.
- Understanding and meeting professional and legal SEND responsibilities outlined in the Children and Families Act 2014 including contributing to statutory assessments of special educational needs and delivery of Speech and Language Therapy provision as specified in children’s Education Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
- Maintaining accountability for own professional actions and recognise own professional boundaries, seeking advice from senior colleagues as appropriate.
- Maintaining accurate and contemporaneous clinical notes in appropriate format and write reports as requested in line with service, RCSLT and HCPC guidelines.
- Working closely with children & young people, parents, carers and multi-disciplinary team members across health, social services, education, children’s services, agreeing decision making relative to clinical management

- Degree or equivalent and Licence to Practice – Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
- Current registered membership of HCPC and RCSLT
Experience

- Working with multi-cultural client groups
Skills
Essential criteria
- Working in partnership with other members of the MDT
