Job overview

The Emergency Medicine and Integrated Care Division are currently looking to appoint an individual with an excellent track record of operational management, people leadership and change management to join an enthusiastic and dynamic senior team. The post holder will work closely with medical, nursing, management, and administrative teams to deliver excellent performance and achieve agreed productivity targets with main objectives for the role linked to ensure we :- deliver high-quality patient - centred care- are the employer of choice- deliver better care at lower cost. Main duties of the job

The Deputy General Manager role covers a number and range of medical specialties supporting both outpatient and inpatients across the two hospital sites. The Deputy General Manager works with key stakeholders in the multidisciplinary team, including medical, nursing, therapies and administration, to support in the delivery of high quality care and excellent performances. The Deputy General Manager will work closely with and support the General Manager and deputise as required.

To deliver in this role, you will need experience of working within multi-professional teams. You will have a strong proven track record of inclusive leadership and staff management. You will have successful strategic and operational management experience and will demonstrate a high level of organisational skills. This will include a commitment to patient care and performance delivery along with robust financial and workforce experience.

The role covers both elective and non-elective areas including outpatient clinic Referral to Treatment (RTT) performance, cancer pathways management, leadership and performance, and supporting inpatient areas through efficient discharges and hospital flow. The role manages a range of general medicine specialties and also works closely with the acute medicine and emergency medicine departments and leadership.

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Management qualification, MBA or equivalent
  • Post graduate qualification or evidence of post graduate education

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant service or general management experience in the NHS with, responsibility for operational matters including, staff management, budgetary responsibility, performance targets, waiting list management, discharge arrangements
  • Proven experience of service development
  • Proven experience of change management ability
  • Experience of leading projects
  • Experience of waiting times/access targets – NHS national access targets
  • Experience of managing medical staff and/medical issues e.g. EWTD
Desirable criteria
  • Project management experience of delivering clinical services during the implementation of a building project or capital redevelopment plan

Skills and Knowledge
