Senior Clinical Fellow - Paediatrics

NHS Medical & Dental: Senior Clinical Fellow

Job overview

We are looking to recruit Senior Clinical Fellows to the General Paediatric Department. The posts provide an opportunity to develop paediatric clinical skills and are suitable for those not currently in the training programme, as well as for trainees looking for out of programme experience or want to start a special interest module (SPIN). The posts are ideally suited for those who want to expand and consolidate their experience in paediatrics with exposure to subspecialty paediatrics and paediatric HDU.

The post will be tailored to meet needs of the successful applicants, who will have the same training opportunities as senior paediatric trainees.  The post holders will work with the existing paediatric team (the posts do not cover the Neonatal Unit).

Main duties of the job

Roles and responsibilities

  • Provide day to day support on site for the Paediatric wards and Paediatric outpatient department
  • Work in collaboration with specialist teams on site
  • Participate in the out of hours middle grade rota.
  • Participate in the Audit/ QI / Research program of the department.
  • Contribute to the departmental and undergraduate teaching program including simulation

There is a wide range of teaching opportunities including development of undergraduate training, regular simulation, acute and specialist paediatric multi-disciplinary teaching.  The post holders will be working alongside London deanery trainees and trainees from General Practice, Paediatrics and Emergency Medicine backgrounds and will have access to all the same educational opportunities. The post holders are encouraged to keep an e-portfolio and will have an allocated educational supervisor.

Working for our organisation

We provide services from two main hospitals, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex University Hospital, and a number of clinics across London and the South-East. We have over 6,000 members of staff that are PROUD to Care for nearly one million people. Both hospitals provide full clinical services, including full maternity, emergency and children’s, in addition to a range of community-based services across London, such as award-winning sexual health and HIV clinics.

We’re one of the best preforming Trusts in the country. We’re also one of the top trusts to work for – our staff say they’re engaged, motivated, and would recommend us as a place to work and receive treatment.

Our Trust has been rated by the Care Quality Commission as ‘Good’ in all five of the main domains of safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led, giving an us overall rating of ‘Good’. We’ve also been awarded an ‘Outstanding’ rating for ‘use of resources’ by an NHS Improvement inspection.

Our facilities are some of the best in the country. We have been investing around £10 million a year in our estate. We are currently spending £25 million on expanding our adult and neonatal critical care facilities at Chelsea and Westminster and redevelopment of our children’s unit at West Middlesex – in partnership with our charity, CW+ and generous donors.
