Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated CCAB Qualified Accountant to join the East London NHS Foundation Trust Financial Management team in this Finance Business Partner Band 8a role.

We are seeking an individual who is dedicated, motivated and pro-active with excellent organisational and communication skills. Your aim is to help us provide high quality care to our local communities in East London. 

Main duties of the job

The post holder will manage a management accountant in providing day-to-day support in all aspects of the service’s financial performance and business partner relationship whilst maintaining an excellent team ethic.

To manage the delivery of accurate and timely monthly performance reports for presentation at Directorate Management Team meetings. To provide comprehensive financial management support to the Directorates including analysis of monthly performance against income and expenditure, annual budget setting, future plans, and developments in financial reporting.

Person specification

Education, training and qualifications

Essential criteria
  • CCAB Professional Accountancy Qualification or equivalent
  • Degree or equivalent qualification

Previous Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous management accounts experience
  • Experience of large scale general ledger systems
  • Experience in training non- financial managers
Desirable criteria
  • Previous roles in NHS Finance departments
  • Oracle financials or similar package
  • Staff management experience
  • Production of business cases, tender submissions and/or contract costing and pricing

Skills & Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Able to maintain accuracy and precision when working to deadline
  • Able to prioritise & coordinate workloads to cope with change and conflicting demands
  • Ability to translate, summarise and communicate highly complex financial data to non-finance staff
  • Able to identify and interpret key performance issues from raw data
  • Computer literate, including advanced Microsoft Excel and Word skills
  • Excellent oral and written presentation skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to relate to senior managers and clinicians, maintaining close working relationships whilst independently providing expert financial advice in line with Trust and accounting policies
Desirable criteria
  • Able to use Microsoft Access or other database applications

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • In depth knowledge of financial management systems and processes.
Desirable criteria
  • Good understanding of the NHS financial regime
  • Knowledge of relevant policies and developments affecting mental health and community services
