Consultant Psychiatrist Acute Inpatient in Early Intervention
NHS Medical & Dental: Consultant
ELFT has long been recognised as a centre of excellence for mental and health care, innovation and improvement. So it is a very exciting time for you to come and work for us. Our mission is to make a positive difference to people's lives by improving quality of life for all we serve. Our values are: We Care, We Respect, We are Inclusive – so we are looking for people who live and breathe these qualities when supporting service users and carers, and in their relationships with colleagues in the Trust and our partner organisations.
Job overview
This consultant post was created 5 years ago after service changes including the expansion of early intervention services in the community. It has a focus on treatment of inpatients under the community early intervention in psychosis team (EQUIP), both males and females presenting with first episode of psychosis. Male patients are admitted to Ruth Seifert Ward, female to Gardner ward. Ruth Seifert ward is a 16-bedded acute admission ward specialising in the treatment, care and support of men in City and Hackney who need a period of hospital admission.
Main duties of the job
The postholder is responsible for the care and management of all the patients admitted under the Early Intervention team. The usual caseload is approximately 10-15 beds needed for early intervention patients (7-10 males and 3-5 females) and 2-4 beds for out-of-area patients. The main base of the postholder is therefore Ruth Seifert Ward. The role includes providing the RC cover, focusing on consultant level assessment of any new admissions with established or suspected first episode of psychosis, or who are out of their catchment are, that have taken place, actively supporting an effective interface between the ward, HTT and EQUIP to facilitate safe early discharges from the inpatient unit, actively engaging with the relevant community teams, providing clinical leadership for the MDT on the ward, leading ward and management rounds and undertaking relevant reviews of inpatients, supporting the bed management processes and maintaining high quality care for the patients on the ward. This relatively new arrangement is an exciting opportunity to develop an innovative and forward thinking model of care for patients presenting with the first onset of psychotic illness and what they need when they require inpatient treatment.
