Recruit to Train CAMHS Practitioner

NHS AfC: Band 6

ELFT has long been recognised as a centre of excellence for mental and health care, innovation and improvement. So it is a very exciting time for you to come and work for us. Our mission is to make a positive difference to people's lives by improving quality of life for all we serve. Our values are: We Care, We Respect, We are Inclusive – so we are looking for people who live and breathe these qualities when supporting service users and carers, and in their relationships with colleagues in the Trust and our partner organisations.

Job overview

City & Hackney CAMHS are excited to be recruiting to 1 full-time post as CAMHS practitioner  within the Mental Health in Schools Support Team (MHST).

This is a training role from within both the Child and Young Persons Improving Access to Psychological Therapies Programme (CYP-IAPT) and the Mental Health Support Team (MHST). The post holder will work within MHST providing assessments and interventions whilst undertaking a programme of training for this role. This intensive training post will equip the post holder to provide interventions based on CYP-IAPT care principles and also an evidence based intervention consistent with their training course. The training will be in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). The post holder will work in schools as part of the MHST and also attend their training course 1-2 days per week.

Main duties of the job

The Mental Health Support Teams are part of an exciting project funded by NHS England, Health Education England and partners, with the aim of improving the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people in the community.  There is a specific focus on developing more access to helping and improving the general culture of emotional support within all primary and secondary schools including special educational provisions and PRU’s.  Working alongside community partners, the Mental Health Support Teams will be fully integrated with community CAMHS and educational settings.

We are looking for a confident CAMHS professional who is keen to develop their skills in providing evidence based interventions to children and young people both within schools and in CAMHS clinic setting. You will have a demonstrable track record of providing collaborative and supportive interventions with children, young people, families, and parents/carers. You will be either an Education Mental Health Practitioner, Nurse, Social worker or OT with the requisite professional registration. The community served is multi-ethnic and culturally diverse and we welcome applicants who are skilled at working with the richness and complexity of this multicultural context.

Working for our organisation

Our mission is to make a positive difference to people's lives by improving the quality of life for all we serve. Our values are: We Care, We Respect, We are Inclusive – so we are looking for people who live and breathe these qualities when supporting service users and carers, and in their relationships with colleagues in the Trust and our partner organisations.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

We offer an exciting and dynamic environment where your ideas and career development will be valued. You will be supported directly by senior colleagues and we will develop the service together. We particularly welcome applications from individuals from ethnically and culturally diverse backgrounds to strengthen the breadth of perspectives within our team.

The job and the course go hand-in-hand, and the process of applying for a job and a place on the course happen concurrently. You need to apply to both at the same time as the service can only offer employment after confirmation of suitability of your university application. You will then be offered a place on the course if the service selects you under their normal recruitment processes.
