Clinical Fellow (Equivalent of ST6+) in Paediatric Gastroenterology for IBD and Mucosal Immunology
The Paediatric Gastroenterology team at Great Ormond Street Hospital are inviting applications for a Clinical Fellow in the Clinical Fellow in the inflammatory bowel disease and mucosal immunology subspecialty of the Paediatric Gastroenterology service at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
This is an exciting opportunity for applicants who wish to extend clinical experience by gaining additional subspecialty experience within Paediatric Gastroenterology in the unique and supportive environment of Great Ormond Street Hospital.
In this post, the applicant will be responsible for providing senior middle grade supervision of the Gastroenterology Inpatient service ensuring continuity of care for patients and families as they progress through treatment.
The appointment will initially be for 12 months starting from September 2025 with the possibility thereafter of extension by mutual agreement.

The successful applicant will be subject to satisfactory pre-employment checks and will be required for an immediate start. There may also be potential scope for possible other ST6 positions later in the year.
Main duties of the job
Primary Role as Clinical Fellow in Mucosal Immunology
The post-holder will predominantly be involved in the clinical management for children with inflammatory bowel disease, including VEOIBD and EOIBD and patients referred via the national commissioned referral pathway for autoimmune GI disorders for assessment and treatment with BMT/HSCT. They will be supporting other aspects of the mucosal immunology unit, including the GI allergy service. This will involve managing admissions within Gastroenterology.

You will have full GMC registration with the General Medical Council and NHS experience. MRCPCH part II or equivalent is essential for all ST6 positions.

Academic/Professional qualification/Training
Essential criteria
- Primary medical qualification - MBBS or equivalent
- Full GMC registration with Licence to Practice (or application in process) or IELTS Certificate with an overall score of 7.5 or Occupational English Test (medicine version) with a minimum score of ‘B’s’ in each domain.
- Paediatric experience (including gastroenterology) for more than 5 years, at post-graduate level (doctor), including training in paediatric resuscitation (APLS or equivalent)
- Paediatric experience in paediatric gastroenterology for more than 2 years, at post-graduate level (doctor)
- MRCP, MRCPCH or equivalent
- Experience of diagnostic endoscopy
Desirable criteria
- Higher degree – MSc, MPhil related discipline
Experience/Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Experience in paediatric gastroenterology
- Experience of audit activities
- Understanding of principles of clinical governance
- Broad knowledge of paediatric medicine
- Be confident in the management of paediatric emergency, for a range of medical specialities
- Commitment to carry out high quality research, leading to publications.
- Experience of teaching and presenting
Desirable criteria
- Published research in peer reviewed journals
