Trust Fellow in Paediatric Neurology/Epilepsy

We are advertising for a clinical fellow post in Paediatric Neurology (Complex Epilepsy and Children’s Epilepsy Surgery Service) for 12 months. 

This clinical fellow post will provide an excellent opportunity for sub-specialist training in Paediatric Epilepsy within a department providing a dynamic comprehensive, tertiary / quaternary complex epilepsy service. GOSH is one of 4 centres commissioned by NHS England to deliver the Children’s Epilepsy Surgery Service. This post is particularly suitable for an individual, who is nearing or post CCT in Paediatric Neurology (or equivalent specialist training) and wish to develop an expertise in epilepsy.

The post will provide support for the in-patient telemetry service, the outpatient specialist epilepsy clinics and MDT meetings (especially epilepsy surgery). The post provides opportunities for training in EEG (including Telemetry) interpretation. Post holders are encourages undertaking a small research project. There is also an expectation to participate in development of clinical guidelines, service quality improvement and audit projects. There will be an on-call commitment, inclusive of long-day shifts, nights and weekends. The post is EWTD complaint.

All candidates should be eligible for full registration with the GMC with license to practice and have full MRCPCH or equivalent.

The Epilepsy Unit provides specialist tertiary/quaternary epilepsy services with one of the largest epilepsy surgery programmes for children in the United Kingdom, a busy ketogenic diet service, Vagus Nerve Stimulation therapy service, and joint clinics with Neurodisability (developmental epilepsy clinic, epilepsy genomic clinic and Sturge Weber clinic). There are additional learning opportunities provided by attendance of regular departmental specialist MDT meetings including monthly epilepsy genomic and non-surgical epilepsy case discussion MDTs.  GOSH has a busy epilepsy monitoring unit (video telemetry unit) with 5 beds performing over 220 evaluations per year.

Academic/Professional qualification/Training

  • Full GMC registration with Licence to Practice or IELTS Certificate with an overall score of 7.5 or Occupational English Test (medicine version) with a minimum score of ‘B’ in each domain.
