The primary aim of the post is for the incumbent to receive training in clinical trials, and to be responsible for clinical trials currently being undertaken within neurology. The number of clinical trials undertaken in neurology have substantially increased.  As we determine an increasing number of causes to the neurological diseases we treat, there becomes a need to acquire appropriate data in the testing of new treatments.  At Great Ormond Street Hospital, we have the cohorts of children required to contribute to appropriately powered studies. We also increasingly are involved in phase I high intensive studies required in rare disease. We founded and continue to be part ofthe European Reference Network for rare and complex epilepsies EpiCARE, and members of the RITA ERN (for rare inflammatory disorders) where one of the key objectives is to enhance clinical trial availability across Europe. Participation in these initiatives, as well as the expertise and trial critical mass with the Clinical Research Facility Unit provide a unique opportunity for training in clinical trials in rare diseases. The part time clinical fellow requested here would be envisaged to participate in clinical monitoring of patients within neurological clinical trials undertaken in the CRF, so gaining in expertise in the requirements of such trials
