Fellowships in Paediatric Anaesthesia (Equiv. ST 7+)

Applications are invited for 12-months fixed term Fellowship posts in Paediatric Anaesthesia at Great Ormond Street Hospital commencing in February 2026. They are designed to offer extensive training opportunities for clinicians wishing to pursue a career in paediatric anaesthesia.  The posts will consist of 12 months training in anaesthesia at this busy tertiary paediatric referral centre.

These are Trust Fellow positions. They don’t have a National Training Number. The FRCA or equivalent level of knowledge is mandatory. Applicants would be expected to have completed the equivalent of at least one year of higher/advanced training in paediatric anaesthesia (or equivalent) and be within two years of completion or two years post completion of specialist training in anaesthesia at the start of the position. They should also be able to demonstrate a commitment to a career in paediatric anaesthesia. Applicants must be eligible to register with the GMC.

Main duties of the job

Main duties of the job:

  1. To provide a high-quality elective and emergency anaesthetic service.
  2. To engage in clinical governance activities such as critical incident reporting, attend morbidity and mortality meetings, perform audit, and participate in any mandatory training deemed necessary. 
  3. To actively engage in the teaching and training of other members of the anaesthetic department and hospital staff.
  4. Engage with quality improvement activity.
  5. Perform additional management and administrative tasks as deemed appropriate to the position.

Academic/Professional qualification/Training

Essential criteria
  • Primary medical qualification - MBBS (or equivalent)
  • Full GMC registration (obtained by designated start date)
  • FRCA (or equivalent level of knowledge)
Desirable criteria
  • MRCP, MRCPCH or equivalent
  • Higher degree – MSc, MPhil
  • Paediatric simulator training
  • APLS/EPLS/MEPA

Experience/Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • At least 3 years’ higher specialist training in anaesthesia and within 2 years of completing or up to 2 years post completing a recognised training scheme.
  • Experience of teaching and presenting
  • Experience of audit/quality improvement activities
  • Understanding of principles of clinical governance
  • One year’s training in paediatric anaesthesia (or equivalent experience)
Desirable criteria
  • Clinical experience in related paediatric specialties
  • Published research in peer reviewed journals
