Clinical Physiologist (Lung Function)

Job overview

We are looking for a motivated Clinical Respiratory Physiologist to work within the IQIPS accredited paediatric Lung Function Unit . The unit is equipped with a suite of rooms dedicated to paediatric lung function testing including spirometry, whole body plethysmography, CO gas transfer measurement, exhaled nitric oxide, respiratory muscle testing (MIP, MEP, SNIP), submaximal exercise testing. We perform measurements on over 4000 children and young people per annum with a wide range of medical conditions including chronic lung disease, cystic fibrosis, asthma, neuromuscular disease, lung transplant, bone marrow transplant, and rheumatology patients. In addition to our routine clinical testing, we have an ongoing research programme. 
We are looking for a candidate with excellent communication skills, who enjoys working with children and young people, placing them and their families at the centre of care.  We will provide specialist training in paediatric lung function testing, including in pre-school children.  You  will join the team providing pulmonary function testing from our laboratory and working closely with the multidisciplinary teams from respiratory and other specialities. A helpful, professional environment supplemented by regular meetings, teaching/training sessions and conferences will allow the candidate to develop paediatric skills in treating a wide range of patients.   

Main duties of the job

To provide a lung function service to paediatric patients as part of the Lung Function Unit team, both within laboratory and at specialty outpatient clinics.

To maintain, calibrate, and set-up lung function equipment with adherence to a quality management system

To ensure all paediatric lung function tests are performed to documented standard procedures, adhering to quality assurance measures.

Ensure accurate documentation of patient records and lung function results in the GOSH Electronic Patient Record System (EPIC) to ensure maintenance of high quality, timely data

5.   To perform clinical lung function tests including but not limited to spirometry, bronchodilator response, gas transfer, body plethysmography, skin allergy test, field exercise tests, maximal inspiratory and expiratory muscle pressure tests. 

6.    To initiate and support with remote home spirometry monitoring.

7.    To be responsible for consumable stock levels.

8.  To contribute towards a multi-disciplinary approach to the management of children with a wide range of respiratory conditions.

9.    To plan and manage your own workload effectively.

     Undertake appropriate quality control of the results.

To contribute as required to any research projects within the department.
