Staff Nurse

Band 5

Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for Experienced Staff Nurses (band 5) to join our dynamic team on Pelican Ward.

Pelican is a busy 10 bedded inpatient ward that specialises in the management of children and young people with Rheumatology, Dermatology, Immunology and Infectious Disease conditions.

Our ambulatory day case area specialises in biologic infusions for both rheumatology and immunology patients. We also carry out joint injections, skin biopsies and day case surgery. Pelican ward also provides day case and inpatient care to the entire paediatric patient group for EB (Epidermolysis bullosa) in the UK.

We care for patients ranging in age from neonates to adolescent. Our patients require a varied input of nursing care from both low to high dependency and have both surgical and medical requirements.

We are looking for registered nurses with excellent paediatric clinical skills who are well-motivated, have exceptional communication capabilities, time management skills and a passion to develop their knowledge.

As a Staff Nurse in our team, your contributions will be valued and recognised. There are many opportunities to learn new clinical skills such as venepuncture and cannulation, PICC line removals, administering Entonox and level 1 chemotherapy.

Main duties of the job

  • To work as a skilled member of the nursing team, to provide a high standard of holistic family centered care to the children, young people and families.
  • Ability to promote family centered care and establish good relationships with children, young people and their families.
  • To communicate effectively at all levels within the multi-disciplinary team.
  • To be able to take charge of the ward in the absence of senior nursing staff following achievement of required competence.
  • To be familiar with and adopt the principles of the NHS Chief Nursing Officer's vision for Compassion in Practice (NHS Commissioning Board Dec 2012).
