You’ll be serving the beautifully diverse populations of Hackney, Newham, and Tower Hamlets, supported by an incredible multi-lingual advocacy team and a world-class complementary therapies centre.

Main duties of the job
What You’ll Bring to the Team:
- Clinical Leadership: Lead the charge in both ward-based and community settings.
- Innovation & Research: We don’t just follow best practices—we create them. You’ll have the freedom to develop specialist interests, from pioneering research to building vital links with underserved groups, like the homeless community.
- Education: Share your expertise through our busy, active Education Centre, shaping the next generation of palliative care professionals.
The Essentials:
- Balance: A sustainable 1:8 on-call rota (weeknights and weekends).
- Qualifications: Full GMC registration with a license to practise. You should be on the Specialist Register for Palliative Medicine (or within 6 months of your CCT).

This role is primarily community-based, with inpatient ward cover, serving the vibrant and ethnically diverse population of Newham, Tower Hamlets, City, and Hackney.

Person specification
QUALIFICATION
Essential criteria
- MRCP/MRCGP/FRCP or equivalent qualification
- Full GMC registration with license to practise
Desirable criteria
- Diploma, Masters Degree or other higher degree in Palliative Medicine
TRAINING
Essential criteria
- Should be on the Specialist Register for Palliative Medicine or within 6 months of attaining CCT / CESR in palliative medicine
RESEARCH, AUDIT AND TEACHING
Essential criteria
- Evidence of critical thinking and the ability to apply evidence in clinical practice
- Recognition of the importance of on-going CPD
- Experience of undergraduate and/or postgraduate teaching
- Evidence of involvement in audit projects and quality improvement projects
Desirable criteria
- Publications in peer-reviewed journals
- Evidence of experience and interest in development of self as teacher
- Experience of leading or significant contribution to audit groups
MANAGEMENT
Essential criteria
- Understanding of current issues facing the NHS and independent hospices
- Appreciation of what makes a good leader, good manager and good team player
Desirable criteria
- Experience of leading service development at consultant level
- Experience of line management, educational supervision or preparing works schedule for trainees
