Job overview

We are seeking experienced band 6 (trainee post) or Band 7 nurse.  

The successful candidate will work on a rota and cover cardiothoracic ward areas. The role involves clerking and discharging patients, cannulation, phlebotomy, prescribing, active ward round participant and working in collaboration with the surgical teams.
Successful candidates will be expected work within the the four pillars of advanced practice.  

We have a very well established Nurse Practitioner service currently with seventeen  members of staff in post but are looking to further develop and expand our current team. 

The post holders work long days and cover weekends but do not cover night duties so if you are looking for a new and exciting challenge as well as a new development to your existing nursing practice please apply. 

Main duties of the job

Advanced clinical practice embodies the ability to manage clinical care in partnership with patients, families and carers.  It includes the analysis and synthesis of complex problems across a range of settings, enabling innovative solutions to enhance people’s experience and improve outcomes.

Person specification

Education / Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered General Nurse (NMC)
  • Advanced or Intermediate Life Support provider
  • Evidence of accredited post registration level 6 education development in relevant subject
  • Evidence of Independent prescribing qualification (or willingness of working towards)
Desirable criteria
  • Health related diploma, degree, Masters or equivalent level of knowledge in the specialism
  • Master’s Degree of in Advanced Practice (or working towards)
  • Teaching qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Recent & Significant post registration nursing experience of caring for cardiothoracic patients.
  • Excellent Understanding and experience in recognition of cardiac and thoracic emergencies.
  • Experience of the treating the cardiothoracic patient.
  • Relevant pharmaceutical knowledge
Desirable criteria
  • Database management
  • Presentation skills
  • Report writing

Skills/knowledge/Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of developing relevant clinical expertise
  • Evidence of effective interpersonal skills and ability to liaise with MDT teams
  • Ability to make decisions, prioritise and work under pressure
  • Awareness of cardiac data entry requirements

  • Involvement in relevant professional networks/group
