Job overview
Three dynamic substantive consultant colleagues are sought to join the diabetes and endocrinology team at Imperial College Healthcare NHS trust. Post 1 is across St Mary’s and Charing Cross sites, post 2 is based at Charing Cross and post 3 is based at St Mary’s Hospital. Imperial College Healthcare is a centre for excellence for diabetes and endocrinology care with sub-specialty clinics treating local, regional and national referrals. Our multidisciplinary team is innovative and expert with a diverse skill mix and strong clinical leadership.
Imperial College Healthcare type 1 diabetes team provides a comprehensive multidisciplinary service for young adults and adults. We provide structured education in the form of DAFNE and have a mature hybrid closed loop insulin delivery service, supported by specialist diabetes psychology, clinical nurse specialists, diabetes specialist practitioners and dietitians. We have established referral pathways for islet and whole pancreas transplantation, and have an active clinical research programme that runs alongside the clinical service.
The endocrine service includes sub-speciality pituitary, bone, thyroid and adrenal services, with specialist nurse support and day ward dynamic investigations run on the Hammersmith and St Mary’s sites. We work with a wide range of other specialties including neurosurgery in the regional pituitary MDT, endocrine surgeons, ophthalmology and oncology to provide join-up collaborative care.
Main duties of the job
All posts include 3PAs of acute medicine commitments with additional general medicine ward cover; on either 8-north ward (CXH) or Lillian Hollard ward (SMH). Post 1 additionally includes a type 1 diabetes clinic, hybrid closed loop clinic and in-patient diabetes, the commitments in post 2 include type 1 diabetes clinic, endocrine clinic, diabetes in-patient support, and post 3 includes thyroid eye and cancer multidisciplinary clinics, antenatal diabetes and general endocrinology.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

All three jobs comprise 10 programmed activities (PAs) with 2 of these sessions allocated for supporting professional activities, including Continuing Professional Development (CPD); appraisal, job planning and revalidation; audit, clinical governance, including incident investigation, complaints handling, service development and management.
The indicative commitments for the posts are as follows:
Post 1 includes three acute medicine PAs, one general type 1 diabetes clinic, one hybrid closed loop clinic, along with advice and guidance, referral triage, and MDT meeting attendance.
Post 2 has three acute medicine PAs, one diabetes in-patient service PAs, one general type 1 diabetes clinic, one endocrine new patient clinic and general medicine ward cover on 8 North ward, along with advice and guidance, referral triage, and MDT meeting attendance.
Post 3 has three acute medicine PAs, one thyroid cancer MDT clinic and MDT meeting, thyroid eye clinic attendance, one general type 1 diabetes clinic, antenatal diabetes clinic, and one general endocrinology clinic, along with MDT meeting attendance.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Full and Specialist registration (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC), or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.
- Applicants that are UK trained, must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
- Applicants that are non-UK trained, will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT
Desirable criteria

- Experience of teaching and training undergraduates, postgraduates and junior medical staff, teaching using digital media, pastoral supervision

- Understanding of principles and participation in clinical audit
Academic achievement
Essential criteria
- Evidence of achievement appropriate to appointment at consultant level at ICHT
Language
Essential criteria
- Are able to speak and write English to the appropriate standard necessary to fulfil the job requirements
