Job overview

Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust (ICHT) is looking for a talented and forward-thinking Capital Finance Manager to join its high-performing Finance Directorate. With a turnover of £1.5 billion, ICHT delivers world-class specialist and acute care to over a million people across North West London and beyond.

As Finance Manager for Capital and Fixed Assets, you will play a central role in managing and enhancing the Trust’s capital financial operations—bringing rigour, insight, and leadership to a critical area of our finance function.

You’ll take responsibility for maintaining the fixed asset register, ensuring the accurate recording, classification, and reporting of all assets—including depreciation, disposals, and lease management. You will bring solid hands-on experience with fixed asset accounting systems and a thorough understanding of capital financial controls.

You’ll lead capital month-end processes, provide expert technical advice on capitalisation practices, and drive excellence in both internal and external reporting. Your analytical skills will enable you to extract insights from complex data, identify key trends, and support strategic decision-making on capital investment.

You will also lead and inspire a dedicated team of three, ensuring that reporting is delivered accurately and on time, and that the team continuously develops its strengths.

Main duties of the job

• Safeguard the integrity of the Trust’s capital financial systems, developing and refining financial policies, and working closely with internal and external audit and counter-fraud teams.
• Lead the month-end capital finance process, including preparing reports for external bodies, contributing to the Trust’s Annual Accounts, and managing the capital audit process.
• Take ownership of capital accounting—maintaining an accurate asset register, tracking expenditure across all capital schemes, managing depreciation journals, and reconciling assets regularly.
• Act as the Trust’s VAT expert on capital projects, ensuring full compliance with VAT and HMRC regulations.
• Support the Head of Capital Finance in ensuring that all financial systems and controls meet statutory requirements, through robust policies, procedures, and governance frameworks.
