Job overview
We are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Research Nurse to join our expanding Ophthalmology Clinical Trials Unit. This full-time substantive post is ideal for an enthusiastic, motivated individual eager to contribute to the growth of our research portfolio and delivery team.
In this role, you will oversee and coordinate a portfolio of ophthalmology studies, ensuring high-quality research delivery across the Trust. You will also support wider divisional research activity by managing your own studies. The position requires previous research experience and a strong understanding of clinical trial processes. You will be responsible for mentoring junior staff and promoting best practices in research nursing.
While based at the Western Eye Hospital, the post-holder will be expected to work across Trust sites as needed.
Main duties of the job
- To facilitate efficient, safe and participant-focused research across imperial College Healthcare Trust.
- To contribute to the management of the local portfolio of clinical research studies.
- To identify and help recruit patients eligible to enter clinical research studies.
- To ensure that the clinical study protocols you are working on are adhered to.
- To work according to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) & Research Governance standards for clinical research studies.
- To establish excellent working relationships with Clinical Trials Units and clinical research study personnel to ensure the smooth running of research studies, and to be the first point of contact for your research studies.
- To recognise and act on concerns raised, if design conflicts with regulatory frameworks and legal requirements or if research deviates from the study protocol

- Registered Nurse

- Has attained or is working towards a Degree / Diploma in management/ Masters Degree
Experience
Essential criteria
- Research experience
- Experience of supervision of junior staff, SSSA or equivalent experience for specialist areas
- Able to demonstrate specialist knowledge of patient group
- Understanding of Research Governance procedures / ICHGCP and the EU Clinical Trials Directive
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Ability to demonstrate application of the NHS Long Term Plan to own phere of practice
Desirable criteria
- Ophthalmic Nursing experience
- Experience of coordinating and managing clinical trials for investigational medicinal products
