Job overview

Our Pharmacy team are looking for a patient focused pharmacist to join our Aseptic Services Team.

As a Cancer & Aseptic Services Pharmacist, you will be involved in a wide variety of duties from assisting with the day-to-day running of the aseptic unit to liaising with our Doctors, nurses, and clinical research teams.

You will play a pivotal role, working within the aseptic unit within Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust at the Charing Cross and Hammersmith Hospital sites, delivering a wealth of expertise to the oncology, haematology, research and nutrition teams.

Our two aseptic units are staffed by enthusiastic and committed teams delivering a high number of doses daily across both sites to various specialities, including our rapidly expanding BMT unit, and one of only three gestational trophoblastic disease centres nationwide.

Our Pharmacy team are a large department of over 300 staff working across St Mary’s, Charing Cross and Hammersmith Hospitals. We are a leading Trust in research and clinical trials, enabling you to experience diverse and exciting opportunities.

Main duties of the job

  • To support the Aseptic Units in maintaining an excellent patient-centred service, compliant with Good Manufacturing Practice.
  • To provide a clinical screening service for SACT, clinical trials and parenteral nutrition, liaising with prescribers, nurses and clinical research teams.
  • To provide clinical pharmacy services, department and ward-based, in line with Trust procedures and national legislation.
  • To assist the clinical trials team in the running of trials being conducted through the Aseptic Units.

Education/ qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Masters Degree in Pharmacy or Equivalent
  • Registered as a pharmacist with the GPhC
  • Post Graduate Certificate in General Pharmacy Practice or equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
  • Post Graduate Diploma in General Pharmacy Practice or equivalent experience
  • GCP and GMP training

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Post-registration training and experience in hospital pharmacy including aseptic services. In addition this must include a solid grounding in all other aspects of hospital pharmacy practice (medicines information, ward services and dispensing)
  • Demonstrate the ability to appropriately recommend, substantiate and communicate therapeutic options for patients
  • Demonstrable use of audit to improve practice
Desirable criteria
  • Post-registration experience in screening and verification of SACT prescriptions
  • Clinical Trials experience

Skills/knowledge/ abilities

Essential criteria
  • Good ability to organise and prioritise work
  • Good clinical practical knowledge
  • Ability to influence senior pharmacy and medical staff, the multidisciplinary team and management
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Demonstrates awareness of and commitment to the Clinical Governance agenda
