Locum Consultant Head and Neck Radiologist

This is a locum full-time Consultant Head and Neck Radiologist post based at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust The post holder will work at 1 or 2 of 3 main hospitals in the Trust; St Mary’s, Charing Cross and Hammersmith Hospitals, and/or one of two Community Diagnostic Centres in Wembley and Willesden. The job has been created due to expansion of the service. The appointment offers an opportunity to join an established team consisting of four Head and Neck Radiologists, with sessional support from other members of the radiology/ neuroradiology team. Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust is a large Ear, Nose and Throat, Head and Neck, Thyroid, Skull Base and Ophthalmology centre with multiple subspecialist clinicians. This is a large, expanding Radiology Department with over 100 Consultant Radiologists. The department has close ties with Imperial College London which offers a wealth of research and teaching opportunities, and has recently been awarded a £1bn Kings Fund for the development of AI in healthcare.
As well as carrying out all aspects of head and neck imaging, the successful candidate would contribute to the general work in the department.
Applicants must have GMC license to practice and either hold CCT in Radiology or be on the GMC Speciality Register, or within 6 months of being granted a CCT. Candidates not on the Specialist Register may be considered with an equivalent level of Specialist Register experience.

The successful candidate will have completed formal training in Head and Neck Radiology, especially in H&N ultrasound, including fine needle aspiration and biopsy procedures, as well as all aspects of H&N cross-sectional imaging. The post-holder will contribute reports to several benign and cancer MDTs and may be involved in a rota in MDTs depending on level of experience and service needs of the head and neck team.
Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust is a Major Trauma Centre. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the general work of the department which includes the provision of 7-day consultant led reporting service. The Trust provides consultant level support for inpatient and acute imaging between 5-8pm which may be included on one weekday evening on a rotational basis as part of the candidate’s job plan. The candidate will also be expected to join the consultant roster on a weekend report checking service equating to 2-3 days / year of 9hrs on each day, which will be remunerated via TOIL (time off in lieu) or sessional pay.
An interest in training and research is strongly encouraged in accordance with the strategic aims of the Academic Health Sciences Centre.

This is a 10PA post (9 DCC & 2 1SPA) based at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. The post holder may work at two of the three main hospitals in the Trust; St Mary’s, Charing Cross and Hammersmith Hospitals.
The postholder will undertake all aspects of Head and Neck cross-sectional imaging and plain film reporting. They will be expected to perform Head and Neck ultrasound, including fine needle aspiration and biopsy procedures.
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the general work of the department which includes the provision of 7-day consultant led reporting – through scheduled but flexible weekend sessions – and the provision of an extended 5-day consultant reporting service.
During the 1 allocated SPAs the postholder will be expected to participate in the management, training and research activities of the department. There is a large radiology registrar intake with a structured training programme which the postholder would be expected to contribute to. The postholder will also help with the training of sonographers in specialist head and neck ultrasound.
The department supports flexible working arrangements including working from home for one DCC and one SPA subject to job planning discussions. Job plans are reviewed every year in line with Trust guidance. Candidates who wish to work only part-time are encouraged to apply, as are applicants interested in job-sharing.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

- On GMC’s register with a Licence to Practice or eligible to apply for GMC registration and a Licence to Practice
- On GMC’s Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted to the register by the date of the interviews or eligible for specialist registration If not on the GMC’s Specialist Register, an equivalent level of Specialist Register experience with appropriate evidence of training, accreditation (e.g. CESR, all or components of FRCR, ESHNR diploma), and extensive clinical experience of reporting head and neck imaging including head and neck cancer independently at specialist level for at least 3 years
- Appropriate Royal College Membership
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

- Formal subspecialty training in head and neck imaging and ability to report a variety of head and neck and general radiology ultrasound, CT and MRI.
- Able to carry out image-guided procedures of the head and neck
- Be comfortable reporting general and trauma cross sectional radiology.
