Job overview
This is a locum consultant post to support the Pelvic reconstructive surgical service within Orthopaedics. The post has primarily a trauma focus and will in tandem provide surgical leadership for the fracture neck of femur patient group and provide support for the Major Trauma Centre Consultant on call rota. The service is looking to appoint a substantive Consultant with a specialist interest in Pelvic Reconstructive surgery, which will complement the current needs of the Orthopaedic service within ICHT. The post holder will also be expected to contribute to teaching and training within orthopaedic department.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be expected to join the 1:12 consultant of the week rota on the SMH site and associated on call rota and participate in the Major Trauma ward consultant of the week.
This full-time post will support the Trauma & Orthopaedic service to deliver high quality care with excellent patient clinical outcomes. Inpatient trauma beds are located on the St Mary’s site and elective /day case services are provided on the Charing Cross Hospital site. This locum post has been created to act as a focal point for the increasing demand on the pelvic reconstructive service. The candidate would also be required to support trauma and elective service.

· Provide high quality care to patients in Orthopaedics, Trauma and Major Trauma Surgery
The post holder must be medically qualified and maintain GMC specialist registration.
o To develop and maintain the competencies required to carry out the duties required of the post.
o To ensure prompt attendance at agreed direct clinical care Programmed Activities.
o To ensure patients are involved in decisions about their care and to respond to their views.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
Essential criteria
- Full GMC registration
- Entry on the GMC specialist register via:
- CCT or CESR (CP) within 6 months of interview
- CESR or European community rights
- An appropriate higher Trauma and Orthopaedic specialty qualification
- (FRCS or equivalent qualification)
Desirable criteria
- Higher Degree or Diploma in Education
ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS
Essential criteria
- Evidence of achievement appropriate to appointment at a consultant level at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust
Desirable criteria
- Publications in peer reviewed Orthopaedic journals
- Current research projects
LANGUAGE
Essential criteria
- Candidates are able to speak and write English to the appropriate standard necessary to fulfill the job requirements
Clinical Governance

- Interest in teaching and training and education

- Regular audit presentations.

TEACHING & TRAINING
