The Neurosurgical referral centre in North West London provides specialist neurosurgical investigations, treatments & expert medical, nursing & therapy care.
11 South is an acute neurosurgical ward specializing in pre & post-operative care of patients receiving brain & spinal surgery. We have close links to Major trauma and ICU and take care of both elective and emergency neurosurgical patients.
Main duties of the job
- Carry out planned care for a group of patients without direct supervision.
- Ensure the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of evidence based, individualised patient care.
- Have an awareness of safe staffing and skill mix and how to escalate concerns.
- Assist in the orientation of new staff and students.
- Ensure that nursing practices comply with Trust policies and procedures.
- Assess the needs of patients, relatives and carers and provide them with information as requested.
- Assist in the teaching and development of nursing assistants, students and junior staff, helping them to achieve their learning outcomes.
- To keep up to date with current developments in nursing and ensure evidence based practice.
- Develop new skills and knowledge pertaining to the speciality as advised by the senior sister or charge nurse.

- Medication administration skills, including IV drug administration (or a willingness to undergo training)
