Job overview
This is a replacement post. The remit of the postholder/s will be to work within the multi–disciplinary team providing and further developing care for patients within the service. In addition, the individual will be required to play an active role in the general workload of the Care Group while having a significant commitment to teaching and training of junior staff.
It is envisaged that the appointee will contribute to the development and delivery of aspects of these services depending upon their interests and experience.
Main duties of the job
Duties
Clinical: All aspects of documentation and care of medical and surgical patients, including private patients, under the supervision of specialist registrars and consultants.
Teaching: Assistance in conjunction with consultants, lecturers and specialist registrars with the teaching of undergraduates.
Research/Audit/Quality Improvement: Involvement in these areas will be encouraged.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Together with other colleagues to provide a service for patients. This includes all aspects of treatment and relevant management duties for the proper functioning of the Care Group.
· Shared responsibility with other colleagues for providing 24 hours, 7 days a week cover for the Unit on a rota basis. Responsible also for covering colleagues’ periods of annual leave and short-term sickness.
· Participation in Multi-disciplinary Meetings.
· Contribution to audit and clinical governance programmes.
· Responsible for outpatient clinic commitments in peripheral hospitals as agreed with the Care Group management team.
· Contribute to the Care Group research interests in accordance with the Trust’s R&D framework.
· Contribute to the audit programmes, Morbidity and Mortality, clinical governance programs and learning from Deaths.

Essential criteria
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification. MRCPCH
Desirable criteria
- Has passed MRCPCH Theory examinations (FOP/AKP/TAS).
Registration
Essential criteria
- Full registration with GMC/GDC with License to Practice.
Training
Essential criteria
- Safeguarding level 3 training. Evidence of achievement of Foundation competencies by time of appointment in line with GMC standards/Good Medical Practice including: • Good clinical care • Maintaining good medical practice • Good relationships and communication with patients • Good working relationships with colleagues • Good teaching and training • Professional behaviour and probity • Delivery of good acute clinical care • Eligibility to work in the UK
5. Experience
Essential criteria
- Working in the UK
Desirable criteria
- At least 6 months’ experience at SHO level in Paediatrics
Language
Essential criteria
- English that are adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues which could be demonstrated by one of the following: a) that applicants have undertaken undergraduate medical training in English; or b) have the following scores in the academic international English Language Testing System (IELTS) – Overall 7.5

- Research Skills: Demonstrates understanding of importance of audit & research and potential to contribute to development in paediatrics
Desirable criteria
- Relevant research experience in one or more aspects . Publication of relevant review articles or case reports.
