Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will be based mainly at Lewisham to deliver aspects of the Hepatitis Operational Delivery Network King’s College Hospital as part of the Hepatology Hepatitis team and will be involved in delivering high standard clinical care within Hepatitis clinical trials. The diverse patient population attending Lewisham & Kings Liver clinics also offers an excellent opportunity to undertake translational Hepatitis research projects or quality improvement initiatives. Our local London boroughs have some of the highest rates of chronic hepatitis B and hepatitis C infection England.

Since June 2023, the emergency department at Lewisham has provided opt-out testing for hepatitis B and C, in addition to HIV. The challenge now lies in linkage to care, ensuring patients diagnosed have access to treatment and monitoring. The hepatology service is also part of the Southeast London Cancer Alliance (SELCA) and NHS England have recently prioritised the early diagnosis of liver cancer, with a focus on identifying patients with cirrhosis who require surveillance. The opportunity has therefore arisen via the ODN to appoint a new clinical fellow to support regional work in both areas, primarily based at Lewisham. There will be a strong focus on management and leadership, with opportunity to be involved at a regional level with quality improvement projects.
