Job overview

  • This postholder will act as a technical systems manager along with the senior band 6 technician in Procurement/Distribution for the automated dispensing systems (robot & Omnicell) to ensure the systems are used to their’ full potential.
  • To assist and deputise for the Omnicell System Administrator with all Omnicell related management including monitoring of the Omnicell shared Email inbox, assisting with Omnicell instillations and contributing to the optimisation of the Omnicell service.
  • To support Patient Services & Procurement/ Distribution leadership team in maintaining and developing standard operating procedures to support Omnicell and technical best practice as needed.
  • To help lead on the quality assurance programme for & Procurement/ Distribution
  • To have a working knowledge of all procedures, legislation or national guidelines relating to the storage and dispensing of unlicensed medicinal products, controlled drugs, and oral chemotherapy.

Main duties of the job

The Advanced Pharmacy Technician for Operations will be responsible for:

  • Supporting Procurement/ Distribution leadership team in the provision of a high-quality patient focused service to patients of the Trust, associated hospitals and community clinics
  •  Assisting with the management of all Omnicell technical functions for dispensary and stores, and provide professional leadership on this system to all staff as needed.
  •   Ensuring the safe storage and cost-effective stock holding/supply of drugs in/from the dispensary & stores which will include working with a trained team in optimizing stock management directly at a clinical area level
  • Deputising for and supporting the Omnicell System Administrator
  •  Ensuring the quality and accuracy of drug stock levels and information on the pharmacy computer system EPIC and in the Trust Automated Dispensing Cabinets (ADCs) i.e. Omnicell cabinets
  •  Supporting, developing and monitoring the progress of band 2 rotational technicians, who rotate through stores and dispensary

Essential criteria
  • Professional registration with General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
  • Mandatory CPD to maintain fitness to practice
  • Knowledge of Pharmacy Epic systems
  • Significant experience of working in a Pharmacy hospital environment
Desirable criteria
  • Management or leadership Qualification or equivalent experience
  • Accredited Checking Technician qualification
  • Experience of automated dispensing cabinets
