Job overview

We are looking for a LAS Resident doctor to work in the Haringey Learning Disability Partnership, based in Wood Green. HLDP consists of the community LD team and the Assessment and Intervention Team (AIT). There is a well-resourced community team including social workers, nurses, psychiatrists, psychologists, speech and language therapists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and administrative staff.
 
Patients at high risk of admission or placement breakdown can be referred to the AIT team and they provide multi-disciplinary interventions in the community. You will work with colleagues from both the community LD team and AIT. You will have weekly supervision by Dr Laura Korb, Consultant Psychiatrist.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:  
1.    To join and document ward meetings, morning meetings, ward reviews
2.    Perform clinical assessments of individuals with mental health problems admitted to the ward 
3.    Develop knowledge of mental health, including formulation of care plans 
4.    To perform physical health checks (bloods, ECGs and physical examinations) and liaise with general hospital/GP colleagues to maintain patient physical health. 
5.    Develop psychiatric interview and risk assessment skills
6.    To be flexible and accessible in providing appropriate care to the patients. 
7.    To work effectively within a multidisciplinary team. 
8.    To comply with the trust values, policies, and procedures. 
9.    To participate in quality improvement work (e.g. audit, service development, etc.). 

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MBBS or equivalent primary medical qualification AND MRCPsych examination; OR a specialist qualification in psychiatry from an EU country that complies with the requirements of EU directive 2005/36/EC
  • Eligibility for full registration with the GMC and a current license to practice at the time of appointment.

Career Progression

Essential criteria
  • Ability to provide complete employment history with no unexplained career gaps
  • Evidence that career progression is consistent with personal circumstances
  • At least 36 months’ training or experience in psychiatry (not including foundation modules) by the post start date;
  • OR • 36 months’ training in psychiatry in an EU country, supported by evidence of compliance with the requirements of 2005/36/EC Directive issued by a competent authority in that EU member state

Clinical Skills

Essential criteria
  • Appropriate knowledge base and capacity to apply sound clinical judgement.
  • Capacity to prioritize clinical need.
  • Ability in basic skills of history taking examination (mental & physical) & synthesis of findings.
  • Basic psychotherapeutic skills

Academic / Research Skills

Essential criteria
  • Understanding of the principles of audit, research & clinical risk management
  • Evidence of active participation in audit
