The North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust is a medium-sized acute and community trust with over 525 beds and over 600 community staff, serving more than 600,000 people living across Enfield and Haringey and the surrounding areas, including Barnet and Waltham Forest.
The hospital has been on its present site for over 100 years and was established as an NHS trust by statute in December 1990. The Trust’s services are provided on the North Middlesex University Hospital site as well as a range of community sites across the London Borough of Enfield, including at partner hospitals. They provide services in collaboration with a range of partners, including local GPs, acute, mental health and other community health service providers across North Central London.
In the year ending 31 March 2022, the Trust reported a turnover of £419.7m and employed almost 4,000 staff. Following the transfer of Enfield Community Services on 1st April 2023, this has increased as we have welcomed over 600 new staff including District Nurses, Community Matrons, Community Physiotherapists, Psychologists and many more across a wide range of adult and children’s community services in Enfield. Are you an experienced A&E Nurse with a passion for delivering excellent care?
We have an opportunity for four Junior Charge Nurses to join our dynamic and rapidly developing team at the North Middlesex University Hospital A&E.
Main duties of the job
Our A&E is one of the busiest in London, with over 45,000 attendances annually. We have a new, purpose-built department dedicated to providing emergency care to young people and adults ; our local community is at the heart of everything we do. We are fully staffed by a team of accident & emergency nurses, 24 hours a day and have excellent team support from our A&E senior team. We are also fortunate to have a team of Emergency Medicine Consultants and have a strong medical support framework and excellent links with our MDT. We have two Matrons and a team of Senior Nurses who actively support and engage in clinical care.
We have strong links with our inpatients and outpatient services, as well as our new SDEC team.
We can offer you the opportunity to further develop your emergency care skills and achieve nationally recognized competencies in -line with emergency care standards. We have our own A&E Practice Development Nurse and a robust and comprehensive continuing professional development plan for all our staff. We are committed to providing safe, evidence-based care to our patients and we ensure this by maintaining our staff members educational needs. We offer ALS and ATLS in-house, and most of our senior team are instructors for these courses.
Working for our organisation
Our expanding department has a dedicated high dependency area , assessment hub which includes ambulance assessment and streaming, resuscitation suite and Horizon mental health unit. We also provide Urgent Care Service and have a team of Emergency Nurse Practitioners.

- Bsc in Research or Health related subject
Skills and abilities

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal
- Teaching and written presentation skills.
- Ability to formulate and deliver objectives to timetable
- Excellent organizational and self-management skills and able to lead a small team in the absence of the ward manager
- Ability to work on own initiative and as a team player
- Demonstrate motivation and flexibility

- Robust clinical decision making skills
Experience and knowledge
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of Ambulatory Care Remit and Pathway processes
- Understanding of the demands/needs of patients within an acute setting in the local community, including the disadvantaged and socially excluded
- Understanding the relationship between performance and achievement of Trust objectives
- Experience of change management
- Ability to prioritise and work under pressure utilising safe practice and escalation skills
- Knowledge of Health service Database and good IT related computer skills
- Up to date current nursing knowledge of issues relating to medicine or surgery
