Job overview
An exciting opportunity has opened to work on our newly refurbished Day surgery as a ward administrator. This post is vital to support our elective and emergency surgical activity at Royal Free Hospital.
The successful post holder will be joining a well established team of clinical and non-clinical staff who work together to ensure successful patient outcomes and a great patient experience.

Main duties of the job
The Day surgery administrator works as an integral part of the Day surgery team, welcoming patients and relatives at the reception desk as well as providing administration support to the nursing staff and medical workforce who work in the department. The post holder will be expected to build relationships with key staff to ensure that the team contributes effectively to the delivery of the elective and emergency Day surgery service on the Royal Free site of the trust.
The post holder will be responsible for providing administrative duties as directed by the service manager and the Day surgery team, duties will include but not limited to admitting patients to the unit, using the CAPMAN system to check patients into theatres, booking transport, preparing notes for the following day, answering the phone, booking follow-up appointments, informing patients of appointments, ordering stationery supplies using the PECOS ordering system and taking notes to medical records

Education & professional Qualifications
Essential criteria
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of working in a public/patient facing role
Desirable criteria
- Previous work experience in a healthcare setting
- Experience of working with Cerner, or similar electronic Patient Administration Systems
Skills and aptitudes
Essential criteria
- Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to use initiative and problem solve, in a busy clinical environment
- Typing and data entry skills
- Good level of computer literacy skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and databases
- Flexible and adaptable to the changing needs of the service
- Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team
- Time management and organisational skills
Personal Qualities & attributes
Essential criteria
- Sympathetic attitude to patients and relatives, who may be extremely distressed or anxious.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to relate to people at all levels
- The ability to manage conflict and identify where escalation to senior staff is necessary
