Working for our organisation
Infectious diseases and complex infections form a large part to the clinical case mix within the Trust as the hospital serves a very culturally diverse and socially deprived population. This presents unique challenges and opportunities for the microbiology & infection services. The hospital also has one of the larger HIV centers in London. The hospital is also the main treatment centre for tuberculosis for outer North Central London. The microbiology department works closely with all infection specialties and others to deliver an infection service that is in line with the needs of our patients.
We have close collaborations with Infection Colleague across North Central London, and have developed a collaborative partnership with UCH Virology, where we present clinical cases and the results of COVID genomic analysis at a weekly MDT.
We are an established postgraduate clinical training site for North London for trainees specialising in Core Infection Training / Specialist Infection Training / HIV. Two HEE appointed Core Infection registrars rotate on a six monthly bases through our service, and participate in the Microbiology on-call. We also have a dedicated Year 2 Foundation House Officer Microbiology trainee working with us on a four monthly rotational basis, and two junior clinical fellows in Infection.
