An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint 1 new senior clinical fellows to join our renal department starting in September 2024 for 15 months. You will be part of a team providing both inpatient and outpatient care to patients with the full spectrum of kidney diseases and be able to participate in a full range of educational opportunities present within the department.

Main duties of the job
The post offers an excellent opportunity to join a centre of excellence for Renal Medicine training. The appointee will join a team of Renal Medicine Specialist Registrars in the Renal Department of the Royal Free NHS Foundation Trust. This is a tertiary referral, academic renal unit providing renal services to North Central London. The post offers excellent clinical experience in dialysis, transplantation, chronic kidney disease and acute kidney injury (AKI).

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The successful applicant will rotate through:-
· Acute Kidney Unit
· Acute transplant recipients,
· ITU stepdowns
· AKI transferred from other trusts in North Central London as part of the AKI Network.
They will also attend a variety of clinics including
· Dialysis (Haemodialysis and PD)
· Transplantation: acute and chronic clincis, transplant assessment clinic
· Low clearance
· general and sub-speciality nephrology e.g. vasculitis, lupus,. Nephrotic syndrome.
Opportunities will also be available to attend other clinics
· Tubular
· Stone disease
· Maternal nephrology
· Amyloid (Natinal Amyloid Centre)
· Difficult hypertension
· HIV nephrology
· Uronephrology.
They will have the opportunity to perform native and transplant renal biopsies under consultant supervision and will be expected to participate in the registrar on call and night shift rota, for which they will be paid a supplement accordingly.
The appointee will have full access to the extensive academic and educational programmes that the department offers. The clinical department works in collaboration with the UCL Centre for Nephrology. Research opportunities are offered by several groups with established interests in renal tubular pathophysiology and stones, renal genetics, renal bone disease, cardiovascular disease, dialysis, autoimmunity and fibrosis.

Education & professional Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Possession of MBBS or equivalent qualification
- Eligibility to work in the UK by September 2024
- Possession of GMC registration and a licence to practice at the time of appointment and up to date fitness to practice by August 2024
Desirable criteria
- Full MRCP(UK) or equivalent
- Possession of a current ALS certification or equivalent
- Possession of a teaching qualification

Experience
Essential criteria
- Proficiency in a range of medical procedures
- Ability to insert temporary haemodialysis catheters independently
- Commitment to the specialty with evidence of previous experience in nephrology, dialysis and transplantation
- Sufficient knowledge base to act at specialist registrar level (ST3+) equivalent
- Experince in the training of junior medical staff, including the teaching of practical procedures
Desirable criteria
- Experience in performing native and transplant biopsies
- Previous HDU/ITU experience
Skills and aptitudes
Essential criteria
- Ability to work as part of and lead a multi -disciplinary team
- Ability to supervise, manage and lead junior medical staff
- Understanding of the principles of clinical governance, patient safety, clinical audit and quality improvement initiatives
- Demonstrable IT skills
Desirable criteria
- Understanding of research methodology and evidence based practice
