Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and experienced ophthalmic nurse to join our multidisciplinary team based at the Royal Free Hospital.  You will have the opportunity to play a key role in providing world-class care to a diverse range of ophthalmic patients. The role also provides opportunities for professional development, with a focus on developing skills to deliver  a nurse-led intravitreal injection service.  

The Royal Free Ophthalmic services are located  across 6 clinical sites based across London.  Delivering clinical care, diagnostic checks and treatments for both adult and paediatric patients across various services which include outpatients, eye casualty, day surgery and pre-operative assessment.   You will  be required  to work in an outpatient setting and Day Surgery as required. 

This post requires cross site cover, therefore, you must be flexible and adaptable to working at different clinical sites to support service needs. 

Qualification in Ophthalmic nursing is desirable. 

Possession of a full UK NMC registration with pin is essential. 

Main duties of the job

The post holder must possess good leadership and communication skills and the ability to work autonomously.   You will be designated to take charge of the department both in the out-patient and day surgery setting.

To work collaboratively and cohesively with the multi disciplinary team to meet the needs of patients and their families.

 Provide specialist ophthalmic nursing care to patients by delivering evidence based, individualised patient care according to patients changing healthcare needs. 

Deliver specialist nurse care encompassing nurse led clinics e.g. Intravitreal injections, Fundus Angiography,  Pre-operative assessment.

To take an active role within clinical governance and quality framework, helping to embed the culture of continuous improvement.

The role involves supervising junior staff,  teaching qualified and unqualified staff,  supporting development, progression and implementation of ophthalmic developments.

Experience
