South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust has a rich history, well-established community links and an international reputation. We deliver specialist services in the London boroughs of Croydon, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark, Bexley, Bromley, Greenwich, Wandsworth and Richmond.

We are committed to provide a high quality and specialist care to our service users and we are recognised for our care and treatment we provide. The Care Quality Commission already rates our services as ‘good’.

We launched our five-year strategy, Aiming High; Changing Lives  in 2021 together with Our Care Improvement System as our quality management system methodology  to make a positive impact on patient care, outcomes and staff experience. By joining SLaM, all staff will get the opportunity to be part of this exciting improvement journey supported with learning and development to harness everyone’s potential as change makers.

The trust recognises the unique and valuable contribution that people with lived experience of mental illness can bring to a role. We therefore welcome applications from people with lived experience and consider them as an asset to the Trust.

Job overview

Applications are invited for a Specialty Doctor post based in Lewisham CAMHS service at the Adolescent treatment team (ATT) and at Youth justice service CAMHS service.

This post is for Monday- Friday from 9am-5pm with no out-of-hours responsibilities.

The post holder contributes on a regular basis to the daytime (09:00-17:00) resident doctor duty rota for Lewisham CAMHS crisis service along with CT and SR grade residents and with support from the duty consultant child and adolescent psychiatrist

The post will be initially for a period of 6 months with possibility of extension. Start date is ideally: 6th August 2025, although some flexibility is possible.

Main duties of the job

This post is akin to a very popular specialist resident training post in community Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, but this is a service post rather than a higher training post.

Unusually, this specialty doctor post has arisen due to the appointed ST4 not being able to take up the post at short notice.

Broadly, expectations are that the post holder is able to take a detailed psychiatric history, carry out a mental state examination, and carry out a detailed general physical examination and order relevant investigations like ECG, Bloods etc. The Post holder will be required to maintain appropriate documentation in the patient’s notes and liaise closely with the multidisciplinary teams in ATT and ARTs and with the CAMHS Consultant.
