Job overview
1. To support the department and Multi-Disciplinary Teams (MDT) to increase compliance with the MHA by reviewing data to identify areas where good practice measures are required.
2. To support members of the frontline clinical teams to help identify MHA issues and address potential errors before they occur, and where necessary, attend clinical reviews and relevant meetings
3. To ensure service deliverables are maintained in accordance with the statutory provisions of the Mental Health Act
4. To provide supervisory and managerial support to the Mental Health Act Co-ordinators
5. To meet and maintain Trust standards for the MHA Offices
Main duties of the job
1) The post holder will provide effective MHA operations to clinical teams through monitoring and implementing the In-Reaching Model.
2) To organise the work of the MHA Office in order to meet the Trust Working Practice standards for the MHA Department
3) To provide weekly reminders to the clinical teams regarding key MHA actions including expiry dates, consent to treatment and hearing requirements.
4) To line-manage the MHA Co-ordinators within the team, providing supervision, training and appraisals.
5) To identify training needs and provide team-based training sessions to address issues and promote best and safe legal practice
6) To ensure clinical records and supportive databases are maintained to a high standard.
7) To be available to attend and support Care Quality Commission visits at short notice.
8) To scrutinise section papers and arrange amendments in line with the Act under supervision
9) To be responsible for the ordering of stocks and supplies ensuring that the cost of the materials remains within the identified budget for that area and monitor the non-pay budget for the MHA Office
10) To complete preliminary investigations following incidents involving the misuse of the Mental Health Act jointly with MHA Leadership

We work closely with the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IoPPN), King's College London and are part of King's Health Partners Academic Health Sciences Centre. Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1) To provide appropriate quarterly statistics and data relating to the use and operation of the Mental Health Act as instructed by the MHA Team Leader
2) To provide additional data to the MHA Team Manager and Associate Director of MH Legislation as required
3) To support the MHA Team Leaders in the training of clinical staff and teams
4) To participate in local Operational Directorate Mental Health Law Committees
5) To co-ordinate and support the appropriate preparations for visits of the Care Quality Commission
6) To alert the MHA Team Leaders to any operational difficulties
7) To provide support to other colleagues, demonstrating the Trust values, when required, including covering on site where needed.
8) To ensure the office is adequately covered, in particular during periods of annual leave and sickness

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- • GCSE or equivalent English and Maths
Desirable criteria
- • Qualification in MH Law or other relevant qualification
Experience
Essential criteria
- • Experience in the operation of the Mental Health Act
- • In-depth working knowledge of office procedures
- • Experience of compiling statistics and data reporting
- • Experience of working with office procedures

- • Experience in legal related work
- • Experience of a Mental Health treatment setting
Knowledge & Skills
Essential criteria
- • In-depth working knowledge of the Mental Health Act
- • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft applications

Applicant requirements
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
