Job overview
We are delighted to invite applications for a N&S CAMHS Principal Pharmacist & Independent Prescriber post to join the Centre for Interventional Paediatric Psychopharmacology and Rare Diseases (CIPPRD) at Maudsley Hospital. We are a national and specialist outpatient Tier 4 Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service.
This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated, enthusiastic Principal Pharmacist to join our team in the treatment of children with neuropsychiatric and neurobehavioural problems. The service specialises in the neuropsychiatric & neurobehavioral treatment of children and young people in the context of rare diseases or conditions with organic involvement, including genetic conditions, acquired brain injury, childhood dementias and major physical illnesses. The post holder will be working closely with the MDT including psychiatrists, psychologists, specialist and specialty doctors, data clinicians and clinical nurse specialist, with excellent admin support.
We are a specialist psychopharmacology centre which provides whole-person medicine and integrated mental and physical healthcare. We have excellent links and provide expert consultation with other national paediatric specialties, post brain injury rehabilitation and third sector organisations. We are well-regarded by service-users across the UK and internationally.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will provide expert pharmacy advice and prescribing support within the MDT for children with a range of rare diseases, genetic and organic conditions. Many of whom will have other neurodevelopmental conditions including an intellectual disability and autism.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing prescribing support for practitioners within the CIPPRD
- Running medicines optimisation clinics both autonomously and jointly with other clinicians for management of neuropsychiatric and neurobehavioural difficulties, including comorbid conditions such as anxiety and mood difficulties and other neurodevelopmental problems (e.g. ADHD) in the context of rare diseases
- Providing expert information and support on psychiatric medicines to patients and carers of CIPRPD
- Contributing to developing monitoring protocols in CIPPRD and specialist research and audits on psychiatric medicines.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Provide face to face consultations and prescribe for allocated patients, and prescribing support for other clinicians in CIPPRD
- Provide medication optimisation support and monitoring both autonomously and jointly with other clinicians in the MDT
- To liaise with local and national pharmacy teams to facilitate procurement and supply of psychotropic medications including off-licence and unlicensed medicines
- To develop and monitor medication monitoring protocols with the wider MDT in CIPPRD.

Education and Training
Essential criteria
- MPharm or equivalent
- Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC), with mandatory CPD
- Independent Pharmacy Prescriber
Experience

- Relevant experience in psychiatric pharmacy
- Relevant experience in patient-facing pharmacist roles
Knowledge

- Demonstrates advanced specialist clinical knowledge
