charge and actively participating in and contributing to the management of the theatre area or department on a regular basis. Supervising and mentoring junior staff.

Main duties of the job

Anaesthetic Nurses and Operating Department Practitioners- Cardiac and Neuro Theatres

Band 5

The Trust has 29 operating theatres across 5 sites in the Trust. We offer exciting opportunities to work in our innovative and busy specialties. We have Band 5 post vacancies in Cardiac and Neuro Theatres for qualified RN anaesthetic trained nurses & Operating Department Practitioners

We can offer rotation to a wide range of specialties and we will support your development every step of the way and make sure that you are armed with the skills you need to meet every challenge you will face. We have a dedicated education team and we will be providing you with support and training in the clinical area.

You will need to be an ODP or RN1 (with recognised anaesthetic qualifications).

Qualifications & Training

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse (general) or Operating Department Practitioner
Desirable criteria
  • A minimum of 12 months post registration experience.

Organisational Management

Essential criteria
  • Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care according to individual needs.
  • Ability to effectively prioritise workload and patient care needs.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of managing resources
  • Demonstrates an understanding of clinical risk
Desirable criteria
  • Computer literate
  • Ability to take charge of the ward in the absence of the Ward Manager on a regular basis.

Education & Research

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the importance of research and evidence based practice
  • Able to explain the principles of mentoring and assessing junior staff
  • Understands the importance of developing self and others
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrates an understanding of audit
  • Ability to take on small research or audit project.

General & Personal

  • Motivated and demonstrates an enthusiasm for the speciality
