Job overview

This role involves liaison with Principal Investigators and other members of the multidisciplinary team to provide high quality data collection and clinical care, with a commitment to participant safety and welfare. The post holder will be expected to advocate for patients and families and empower them to make informed choices concerning their involvement in clinical research studies by providing advice and information. The post holder will work with a high level of autonomy, taking delegated responsibility from clinicians for clinical decision making, and will work closely with investigators and multidisciplinary staff.

Would you like to gain experience in clinical research?

We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated nurse with special interest in vaccine research to join our growing team of clinical research nurses working at St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The post holder will be a key member of the vaccine clinical research delivery team and provide research and clinical care for participants  within a range of various adult, paediatric and maternal vaccine studies. The post holder will have their own caseload of studies to co-ordinate, with the support of senior staff. The post holder will be responsible for supporting the day to day running of clinical trials in different paediatric areas including maternal studies. This will include being responsible for supporting patient identification recruitment, and subsequent treatment, care and follow up of research patients

Clinical research experience would be an advantage but not essential as training will be provided. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required, as is an ability to work flexibly both independently and within a team.

Qualifications / Training

Essential criteria
  • RN with Current NMC Pin
  • Diploma / Degree in Nursing
  • Relevant post registration programme
Desirable criteria
  • Good Clinical Practice Certificate, or willingness to be trained in GCP


Essential criteria
  • Relevant post registration / post degree experience
  • Experience in delivering evidence based practice
  • Experience of explaining complex concepts to patients in a clear and simplified manner
  • Experience of acting as a patient advocate
  • Previous experience in audit and evaluation
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in Clinical Research
  • Experience working as a preceptor/facilitator


Essential criteria
  • Well-developed clinical skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrates ability to prioritise workload
  • Competent use of relevant software specifically spreadsheets
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in ECG’s, spirometry and phlebotomy
