At Synnovis, we are currently shaping the future of pathology services by creating a world-leading Hub and Spoke pathology network with our NHS partners. A large part of this modernisation will involve moving 70% of our services to a purpose built, state of the art Hub laboratory in the heart of London. For now, the job you are applying for will be based at one of our hospital sites however, from 1 April 2024 our people and services will start to move to our Hub laboratory in Blackfriars, Southwark, SE1, with some work remaining in refurbished essential services laboratories across our hospital network, focusing on the rapid turnover of urgent tests. To participate in the day-to-day workflow processes of the routine Cytology section and Andrology sections, under the supervision of the section lead.

To deputise for section leads as required. To participate in such training as required to

establish competency.

To provide an expert level of theoretical and practical knowledge to the laboratory service.

To rotate within all speciality sections of the Department of Cytopathology, including Andrology, attendance at FNA clinics and wards. The post holder will be required to rotate to Guy’s, Princess Royal University, The Royal Brompton, and Kings College Hospitals to attend FNA clinics, or participate in the Diagnostic Cytology Service.

Applications are welcomed from Registered Biomedical Scientists with a minimum of 6 months pre and Post -registration experience in a Cytopathology laboratory and willing to undertake the Specialist Portfolio training within 9 months of commencing in this role.

Synnovis is a pathology partnership between SYNLAB UK and Ireland, and the NHS, including sites, Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, to deliver and transform pathology services across South East London.

The partnership provides services to 1.7 million people living in South East London, as well as to hundreds of thousands of patients from outside the region who use local healthcare services.

The partnership provides diagnostics, testing and digital pathology for hospital trusts, GP services and other healthcare providers.

Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital Foundation Trust is a major emergency and specialist teaching Trust which has all the specialties associated with a fascinating and career defining case load including: Women’s Services, Fetal Medicine, Haematology, Oncology, Transplantation, and is also home to the Evelina Children’s Hospital and the Cancer Centre on the Guy’s site.

BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science accredited with the IBMS/Healthcare Professions Council
CPD participation
HCPC State registration
NHSCSP certificate for cervical Cytology /Diploma /IBMS specialist portfolio cytopathology/MSc in Biomedical Science or equivalent/IBMS registration portfolio completed in a Cytopathology laboratory.

Preparation of Non-Gynae samples for diagnostic purposes.
Experience in Audits.
Full awareness of the medical laboratories’ requirement for quality and competence.

Experience in a Fine Needle Aspiration service.
Experience in giving presentations at CPD meetings.

Paloma Health has developed a new gold-standard autism assessment pathway and our own Patient Record software system, which allows us to offer:

An exceptional service and timely assessments, as well as clear strengths and needs-based outcomes, regardless of whether an autism diagnosis is made.
High assessor role satisfaction by improving the experience of delivering assessments. For example, we are building an AI tool to streamline diagnostic report writing, which we know is a pressure of the role.

You will be a Senior Assessor within our multidisciplinary assessment team, delivering:

Remote developmental histories and child observations (via video calls)
Peer MDT diagnostic decision-making, with the support of the senior clinical MDT where required
Tech-enabled outcome report writing
Outcome calls with parents and families (via video call)

As a Senior Assessor, you have the opportunity to focus on delivering direct care. Furthermore, if you have the relevant experience and skills, you can take on an additional responsibility. We limit this to one responsibility to allow for focused time on that topic, rather than having your time stretched too thinly. When taking on an additional responsibility, your case volume is reduced, making time available for this focused time.

For Senior Assessors, additional responsibility options include supporting more complex cases, ensuring quality assurance, providing training, facilitating family engagement, and contributing to pathway development.

ADOS Autism Assessor for Children and Young People, based in our Exeter clinic

Time commitment: Full-time employment is preferred, though we can also offer part-time (minimum of 3 days per week) or a self-employed role (again a minimum of 3 days per week).

Location: This role is in-person based at our Exeter, Devon clinic.
