Intuitive Robotic HPB Surgery Registrar

Job overview
This is a 1-year fixed term fellowship designed to provide extensive training in Robotic, minimally invasive surgery for the management of complex surgical procedures encountered by UGI surgery (benign and malignant). The fellow will gain ample experience in performing Robotic procedures in at least 2 supervised theatre sessions a week. The fellow will actively participate in the surgical management of patients on the Robotic Surgery Service and collaborate with other members in the perioperative management of Robotic surgical patients. The fellow will have access to the Robotic surgery simulator onsite, to further complement their educational experience.
Main duties of the job
The fellow will be expected to take part in supervised consultant ward rounds everyday of post-operative patients alongside other UGI surgical registrars. Furthermore, attendance at MDT is expected. Fellows will have protected time for research and have abundant research opportunities and mentorship. The fellow should expect to publish several publications by the end of the year, with emphasis on robotic surgery. The fellow will have the opportunity to attend and present his/her research at national and international meetings.
The learning outcomes for this post are as follows:
- Perform primary robotic HPB procedures independently (minimum 25 cases)
- Can perform pre-operative patient seminars, assessment and counselling independent
- Accurately recognise and manage post-operative complications
- Accurately recognise and optimise pre-operative co-morbidities
- Patient selection and guiding patients through the various surgical procedures
- Patient safety and development and adherence to peri-operative protocols
- Participate in audit projects and contribute to research projects
