University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH), situated in the West End of London, is one of the largest NHS trusts in the United Kingdom and provides first class acute and specialist services both locally and to patients from throughout the UK and abroad.
We are looking for a Finance Manager to work within the Surgery & Cancer Board.
The postholder will provide financial management support to the Theatres & Anaesthesia Division which comprises of theatres & anaesthesia, medical physics and sterile services and has a combined direct expenditure budget of c£76m and 760 WTE. The postholder will also be responsible for Surgery & Cancer Board Divisional Management.
The postholder will provide financial support and advice to the division meeting both
service operational needs and corporate deadlines working to tight deadlines and within a fast paced environment.
You will have excellent attention to detail and excellent communication skills (written and verbal) building rapport with various managers and clinicians to support engagement and understanding of the financial position.
The post-holder will have line management responsibility of an Assistant
Management Accountant and will report to the Senior Finance Manager.
Please note this role involves hybrid working arrangements and includes a 2 day requirement in the office.
Main duties of the job
Main Duties:
· Provide full financial management support to the division
· Ensure accurate and timely reporting of the financial position
· Conduct detailed variance analysis including underlying analysis
· Lead on budget holder meetings to ensure engagement and understanding from
budget holders, with the ability to interpret and explain complex financial
information (verbally and written) to non-finance staff
· respond to budget holder queries in an accurate and timely manner
· maintain budgeted and actual establishments
· ensure accurate and timely recovery of income
· line management responsibility of Assistant Management Accountant
· any other ad-hoc duties under the guidance of the Senior Finance Manager, which may include Surgery & Cancer Board wide tasks

Knowledge and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- CCAB qualified Postgraduate management qualification at masters level or equivalent experience
- Advanced IT skills including Excel and Word. Expected to design and create reports using financial spread sheets and databases and familiar with the use of ledger systems
Experience
Essential criteria
- Substantial experience in reconciliation and balances, financial processes, computer systems and ledgers, complex financial reporting, and financial forecasting through scenario planning
- Experience of working with Finance
- Financial management experience of working in Health Sector
- Have experience of work undertaken unsupervised
Desirable criteria
- Financial management experience of working in an acute NHS trust
Skills and Abilities

- Possess excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills (written and verbal)
- The ability to communicate effectively across staff groups
- Be able to build effective working relationships
- Ability to analyse, investigate and interpret numerical data
