University College London Hospitals is seeking to appoint a Consultant Gynaecological Oncologist (10 PAs – additional APAs are available for the right candidate) to join our Gynaecological Oncology service.  This service acts as the tertiary referral centre for gynaecological cancer within North Central London.

The Gynaecological Oncology department has a commitment to high quality patient care, innovative service models, delivery of performance targets, and excellence in education/training. The successful applicant will join a large multi-disciplinary team including Gynaecology surgeons, oncologists, clinical fellows, specialist nurses, imaging specialists, pain specialists, colorectal and urology surgeons.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and talented individual who wishes to join our well-established and dedicated multidisciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

Leading the North London Gynaecological Cancer Network, we provide care for patients suffering from gynaecological cancer, ensuring compliance with cancer waiting targets. The postholder will also support the colposcopy service. 

The post will comprise 10 PAs each week, including outpatient clinics, a weekly operating list, multidisciplinary meeting and inpatient ward round. The post holder will also participate in the gynaecology consultant on-call rota and should possess the required clinical skills to respond to gynaecological emergencies. They will be expected to support on-going audit and research within the team, participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and complete the necessary CPD activity with the RCOG.

Professional Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current
  • • MRCOG or appropriate specialist registration
  • • Relevant CCT or equivalent (‘equivalence’ must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC)
  • • Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register (O&G and Gynae-oncology) or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of the AAC.
  • • Subspecialty accreditation in gynaecological oncology
  • • BSCCP colposcopy accreditation
Desirable criteria
  • • Higher degree (MD, PhD)

Clinical Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Clinical training and experience in general obstetrics and gynaecology equivalent to that required of a UK CCT.
  • • Substantial experience in gynaecological oncology

Clinical Skills

Essential criteria
  • • Excellent skills in gynae-oncology surgery, both laparoscopic and minimal access
  • • Experience in colposcopy
  • • Competency in emergency gynaecology procedures including ectopic and miscarriage
Desirable criteria
  • • Competence in robotic surgery
