Job overview

University College London Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH) is seeking to appoint two Substantive Consultant Dermatologists. One post with a specialist interest in skin cancer and the other with an interest in medical dermatology. The successful candidates will play a key role in the delivery and development of high-quality specialist services, while also contributing to the provision of general and acute dermatology.

Main duties of the job

Both posts are based in at UCLH and will be joining an established dermatology department. 

The post holders will be expected to deliver general dermatology and urgent suspected skin cancer clinics as well as acute dermatology reviews. 

There will be opportunities to lead and develop a specialist service in skin cancer (post 1) and medical dermatology (post 2) 

These posts would suit candidates who are forward-thinking and motivated to deliver high-quality patient care with a collaborative and supportive approach

Person specification

Professional Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practise
  • On GMC Dermatology Specialist Register by date of appointment
Desirable criteria
  • Higher degree (PhD, MD or equivalent)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in General Medicine
  • Comprehensive specialist clinical training in general & acute dermatology diagnostics and treatments
  • Comprehensive training in urgent suspected skin cancer services
  • Comprehensive training in Medical Dermatology conditions
  • Experience in managing severe eczema (Post 2)
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in Urgent Suspected Skin Cancer Teledermatology (Post 1)
  • Experience of being core MDT member (Post 1)
  • Medical Dermatology fellowship (Post 2)

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of commitment to clinical Governance
  • Ability to offer an expert opinion in a specialist area commensurate with the needs of the service
  • Evidence of postgraduate and undergraduate teaching
  • Experience of a quality improvement project relating to improving a service

Audit Management & IT

Essential criteria
  • Experience in Leadership roles
  • Experience of audit with service improvement outcomes
  • Understanding of the clinical Governance framework of the NHS and its application

Personal and People Development

Essential criteria
  • Experience of supervising and training dermatology resident doctors
  • Actively contributes to the effective running, governance and continuous improvement of the department to support shared objectives and deliver excellent care.
