Job overview
University College London Hospitals undertakes world-class research across many specialities including cancer, neurology, stroke, rheumatology, and early phase medicine. In this role you will be a key part of facilitating this research. You will be an integral part of a team of clinical trial senior pharmacists who provide a high-quality dispensary and production service, thereby giving access to new, ground-breaking treatments to patients via study protocols. The postholder will demonstrate leadership, oversight, finance, risk assessment, audit, and inspection skills. A GPhC-registered, pharmacist with at least 2 years’ post registration experience in an NHS hospital healthcare setting would be well suited. The post holder will be well supported by the Highly Specialist and Principal Research Pharmacists .

Main duties of the job
The post-holder will work as part of the UCLH clinical trials team to provide the pharmacy input and management of clinical trials across all sites in a manner consistent with Good Clinical Practice GCP requirements and other relevant guidelines
• Plan and participate in the risk assessment of clinical trials with respect to systems, patients, and staff at UCLH
• Participate in clinical trial feasibility assessment meetings, to communicate feedback for our services for safety, capacity, and capability.
• Support the day-to-day smooth running of the operational and dispensary functions of the pharmacy clinical trials team.
• Support with the mentoring and development of the clinical trial technical team.
• Monitor the progress of clinical trials in set up or undergoing amendment, and support or escalate as needed to maintain agreement timeframes.
• Provide advice to the wider research community when appropriate and escalate to senior pharmacists when appropriate.
• Participate in the management and development of the pharmacy clinical trial service at UCLH

Knowledge and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Master’s in pharmacy, and Pharmacist Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
- Demonstrates a working knowledge of clinical trials, Good Clinical Practice and how these impact on pharmacy practice
Desirable criteria
- Clinical Diploma in Pharmacy Practice or Pharmaceutical Technical Services
- Good Clinical Practice certificate
- Specialist Qualification in Clinical Diploma in Pharmacy Practice or Pharmaceutical Technical Services
- Clinical experience in Oncology/ Haematology, Neurology, Paediatrics or equivalent practical experience
Experience
Essential criteria
- Full time post qualification pharmacy practice experience in an NHS hospital for at least 2 years
- Awareness of current national standards, guidelines, and service delivery issues relevant to clinical trials
- Participation in audit
Desirable criteria
- Demonstrable experience of clinical trials and dispensary
- Experience of writing SOPs, managing change and incidents, and developing and delivering action plans
- Demonstrable experience of aseptic services or QA.
- Experience of managing change in a pharmaceutical setting to meet specific patient needs and reducing patient risk.
- Experience of Good Clinical Practice or Good Manufacturing Practice audits and demonstrable evidence of use of findings to improve practice
- Previous experience in delivering education and training within pharmacy
